Wilde’s story “The Portrait of Mr. W.H.” blurs literary genres, asserts the importance of the false and plays with reader expectations. It has generated a substantial exege- sis, perhaps lacking in interest in the multi-faceted debates on belief running through the 1870s-1880s. Wilde takes part in that debate through a text of uncertain status and complex editorial history, contrasting Newmanian assent with W.K. Clifford’s ethics of belief (1877), before asserting the supremacy of desire, thus ruining all assent and epistemically justified belief. What happens when feminine authors investigate porn-comics and draw themselves in it ? Self-depiction of feminine authors conveys something original in a field where it usually is a way to express a private fantasy. From feminist comics of the 70s to the most recent porn comics, authors’ bodies are not sex objects anymore, they are the subject of a narration. Self-depiction is a new material for porn-comics and gives sincerity to the stories, it may be a way to express political views. Arthur Symons’s The Romantic Movement in English Poetry (1909) has elicited scant discussion. Part dictionary of British authors born before 1800, part series of portraits of canonical Romantic poets, The Romantic Movement remains perplexing with its unclear purpose and ungainly format. This article argues that Symons’s monograph should be approached in the turn of the century debate on the definition and value of British Romanticism. As opposed to T. E. On the 28th of August of 1612, Juan Vivas de Canamas, the ambassador of king Philip III in Genoa, commissioned the Genoese sculptor Giuseppe Carlone to carve a large statue made of Polveracio white marble representing, according to the drawing attached to the contract, the figure of a knight. The portrait depicts none other than the Duke of Lerma, whose marble effigy was intended to preside in his castle and palace of the Valencian city of Denia and was installed there at the end of 1613. However political value and subversive force of photography lies in the dialectic between known and unknown that the image of the photographed face produces. Photographic portrait produces new, previously unknown relationships if it isn’t only used for purposes of reproduction: so it is able to be in opposition to the established order and its imperatives that want to eliminate chaos and differences.

Tutkimus on osa Jyväskylän yliopiston kielten laitoksen Pohjoinen monikielisyys - hanketta, jonka tavoitteena on tutkia monikielisyyttä Pohjoiskalotin alueella. Projektissa hyödynnetään sosiolingvistiikkaa, kriittistä diskurs-sintutkimusta ja etnografiaa. Tässä tutkimuksessa esiin nousevat mm. kielentäminen, heteroglossia ja kieli-politiikka.
