Chemical Profiling of Polyfloral Belgian Honey: Ellagic Acid and Pinocembrin as Antioxidants and Chemical Markers

2017

Chemical profiling of northern Belgian polyfloral honeys was performed to analyse their phenolic compound content (flavonoids and phenolic acids). First, samples were subjected to a standard analysis of their physicochemical properties, and then, the phenolic fraction was isolated and analysed using a HPLC/PAD method. All of the tested honeys showed a common and specific phenolic profile that could be the basis for the differentiation of polyfloral honeys of the Antwerp region from other polyfloral honeys. Chromatographic data indicated a high content of ellagic acid (9.13–13.66 mg/100 g honey), as well as the flavonoid pinocembrin (1.60–1.85 mg/100 g honey) in these honeys. Ellagic acid, a…

Comparative chemical composition, free radical-scavenging and cytotoxic properties of essential oils of six Stachys species from different regions of…

2009

Abstract The chemical composition of essential oils of six Stachys species, S. cretica L. ssp. vacillans Rech. fil., S. germanica L., S. hydrophila Boiss., S. nivea Labill., S. palustris L. and S. spinosa L., obtained by hydrodistillation, was studied by GC and GC–MS. All the oils have in common a great percentage of fatty acids and esters (24.2–58.5%) and a high amount of sesquiterpenes (16–35.9%), with the exception of the oil from S. palustris , which consisted mainly of carbonylic compounds (25.4%). The antioxidant activity by DPPH test and the antiproliferative activity on a series of human cancer cell lines (C32, amelanotic melanoma and ACHN, renal cell adenocarcinoma) were investigat…

Does unsaponifiable fraction of grape seed oil attenuate nitric oxide production, oxidant and cytotoxicity activities.

2019

Triterpenoids, tocopherols, and phytosterols presented in unsaponifiable fraction of grape seed oil have several beneficial effects comprising antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor capacities. In this study, the unsaponifiable fraction of three Tunisian grape seed varieties (Vitis vinifera L.), namely Merlot, Carignan, and Syrah, was investigated. The identified compounds were two triterpenic compounds (β-amyrin, lanosterol), six phytosterols (campesterol, ∆7 -avenasterol, stigmasterol, β-sitosterol, β-sitostanol, cholesterol), and three tocopherols (α, β, and γ tocopherols). The unsaponifiable fraction had significant protection against oxidative damage by modulating NO production …

Drosera rotundifolia L. is a carnivorous plant used in traditional medicine for its therapeutic properties. Because of its small size, its collection in nature is laborious and different cultivation methods have been studied to ensure availability. However, only a few studies exist where the lab-grown sundew tissue and field-grown sundew would have been compared in their functionality or metabolic profiles. In this study, the antioxidant and antiviral activities of lab-grown and field-grown sundew extracts and their metabolic profiles are examined. The effect of drying methods on the chromatographic profile of the extracts is also shown. Antioxidant activity was significantly higher (5–6 ti…

INTRODUZIONE AL D.LGS. 19 GENNAIO 2017, N. 3, DI ATTUAZIONE DELLA DIR. 2014/104/UE SUL RISARCIMENTO DEI DANNI PER VIOLAZIONE DELLA NORMATIVA ANTITRUST

2018

With the issuance of Legislative Decree January 19, 2017, no. 3 was implemented the…

Antitrust - Azioni per danniWith the issuance of Legislative Decree January 19 2017 no. 3 was implemented the Directive 2014/104/EU of the Parliament and the Council of November 26 2014 concerning certain rules governing actions for compensation for damages under national law for infringements of the competition law provisions of the Member States and of the European Union. Early results of a low-profile stent-graft for thoracic endovascular aortic repair

2020

Purpose To assess outcomes of a low-profile thoracic stent-graft in the treatment of thoracic aortic pathologies. Methods A retrospective analysis of all consecutive patients with aortic thoracic pathologies treated with the RelayPro device in two university hospitals between October 2018 and July 2019. Results 23 patients (65% men; mean age 63.4 ± 15 years) were treated. Pathologies included aortic dissections (n = 10), 5 residual type A (22%) and 5 type B (22%), 6 degenerative aortic aneurysms (26%), 4 penetrating aortic ulcers (17%), and aortic erosion, intramural hematoma and aortic rupture (n = 1 and 4% in each case). Two cases (9%) were emergent and two urgent. Proximal landing was a…

Framework for Fluid-Structure Interaction Analysis of Aortic Coarctation Resulting From Proximal Protusion of Thoracic Aortic Stent Graft Into the Ar…

2011

Thoracic aortic stent grafts (TASG) are commonly used to repair aortic anomalies or diseases in a minimally-invasive fashion. One complication of TASG is collapse, whereby blood is unable to completely flow through the graft as intended. Most TASG collapses occur in the setting of endovascular repair of traumatic thoracic aortic transection, where a typically smaller diameter aorta of pediatric patients is repaired with a relatively larger diameter endograft designed to treat aneurysmal disease [1]. It is hypothesized that the poor apposition of the leading edge of the proximal stent graft to the lesser curvature of the aortic arch can result increased hemodynamic force at the leading side …

Focus on the unique mechanisms involved in thoracic aortic aneurysm formation in bicuspid aortic valve versus tricuspid aortic valve patients: clinic…

2013

OBJECTIVES: The involvement of different factors in the onset of thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) in patients with a bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) vs those with a tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) is well recognized. However, the molecular, genetic and cellular mechanisms driving TAA remain unclear. The aim of this study was to identify the different mechanisms involved in TAA development in patients with BAV vs TAV. METHODS: Aorta specimens and DNA samples were collected from 24 BAV (18 men and 6 women; mean age: 54.2 ± 14.39 years) and 110 TAV (79 men and 31 women, mean age: 66 ± 9.8 years) patients. A control group of 128 subjects (61 men and 67 woman, mean age: 61.1 ± 5.8 years) was also enrolle…
