In this chapter, I explore an extreme form of egalitarianism, namely the idea that everyone should get paid the same amount of money per hour worked, no matter what kind of work they do. I explain what the idea is more exactly, what can be said in its favor, and I reply to some potential objections to it. I argue that the idea has more going for it than one might initially think.

Both workaholism and work engagement refer to an intense work effort, yet with a different impact on work and personal life. This study explored the effects of working time patterns on positive parenting and parenting stress, and the moderating effects of working hours, the unpredictability of work schedules, and autonomy over working time in a European context. This cross-national survey study compared Finnish (n = 337), Dutch (n = 283) and British (n = 317) mothers with children under the age of 13, using structural equation modeling with a multigroup procedure. We found a connection between working time patterns and positive parenting but the nature of the connection differed between countries. Preparation of ferulic acid derivatives and evaluation of their xanthine oxidase inhibition activity.

Several ferulic acid ethyl esters (3a-h) were synthesized under the Knoevengel reaction condition and they were further reduced to afford the respective allylic alcohol derivatives (4a-g). Some of them were evaluated for the xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory activity. Among them, 3h exhibited a significant inhibitory activity with an IC50 value of 1.35 x 10(-5) M, while the IC50 value of allopurinol used as the positive control was 1.49 x 10(-5) M. The study suggested that the higher acidity of the phenolic OH group in the ferulic acid derivatives might result in improved XO inhibitory activity.

Abstract The need for reporter lines able to faithfully track Th17 cells in vivo has become an issue of exceptional importance. To address this, we generated a mouse strain in which Cre recombinase is expressed from the IL-17F promoter. Crossing the IL-17F-Cre allele to a conditional enhanced yellow fluorescent protein (EYFP) reporter mouse yielded the IL-17F-CreEYFP strain, in which IL-17F expression is twinned with EYFP in live IL-17F-expressing cells. Background The aim was to compare the efficacy of the passive ultrasonic irrigation PUI and the Xp-endo Finisher (FKG-Dentaire, La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland) in removing the calcium hydroxide paste from root canals and from the apical third. Material and methods Sixty-eight root canals of single-rooted teeth were shaped using the BT-Race files (FKG-Dentaire, La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland).
