Differential antiepileptic effects of the organic calcium antagonists verapamil and flunarizine in neurons of organotypic neocortical explants from n…
1988
Effects of the organic calcium antagonists verapamil and flunarizine on pentylenetetrazol induced paroxysmal depolarizations were tested in organotypic neocortical explants taken from neonatal rats. In these in vitro experiments the papaverin derivative verapamil depressed, and finally abolished, epileptic discharges in all cases. The piperazine derivative flunarizine, however, which is known to suppress epileptic discharges in hippocampal CA3 neurons (Bingmann and Speckmann 1986), showed no significant antiepileptic effects in the explanted neocortical neurons. Thus, the present findings may indicate that the suppressive action of flunarizine on the generation of paroxysmal depolarizations…
The Contribution of Event-Related Potentials to the Understanding of Sign Language Processing and Production in the Brain : Experimental Evidence and…
2022
Functional neuroimaging allows investigation of the timing properties of the brain mechanisms underlying covert language processing. This paper presents a review of the use of the neuroimaging technique called Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) in sign language (SL) research. In the field of neurolinguistics, ERPs have been widely used in the study of spoken language, but their use in SL is still rare. Studying the neurocognitive aspects of SL could lead to a better understanding of the specific processing of SL in the brain. This review outlines the basic theoretical and methodological principles of ERPs. We focus on three groups of ERPs that are particularly relevant to SL processing and pro…
The premises of the evolution and development of firm competences in strategic management
2021
Purpose: The aim of the article is to identify the premises of the evolution and development of firm competences in strategic management. Design/methodology/approach: The article indicates the key role of competences in strategic management. An extensive literature review and an identification approach were used. Findings: Competences may significantly affect the achievement of the expected market and economic outcomes, as well as building a long-term competitive advantage of a firm. Practical implications: The results of the research presented in the article show the significant importance of the firm competences in strategic management and business practice. Originality/value: The most im…
FROM COMPETENCY-BASED HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT TO COMPETENCE-BASED STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
2022
Purpose: The aim of the article is to identify the most significant assumptions and conditions for the development of the Competence-Based Strategic Management concept embedded on the assumptions and elements of the Competency-Based Human Resources Management concept. Moreover, the aim of the article is to identify the place of competences in the hierarchy of the firm success potentials in the concept of Competence-Based Strategic Management. Design/methodology/approach: The article indicates the most important stages on the road from the Competency-Based Human Resources Management concept to the Competence-Based Strategic Management concept. An extensive literature review and an identifica…
Przesłanki tworzenia przewagi konkurencyjnej w oparciu o strategiczny profil logistycznych potencjałów sukcesu przedsiębiorstwa
2018
Firms are constantly looking for ways leading to business competitive advantage creation, which is one of the most important issues within the area of strategic management. Among the factors affecting the creation of this advantage, an important place is occupied by the logistics potentials of business success, including resources, capabilities and competences related to the logistics area. The purpose of the article is to identify the premises of business competitive advantage creation, based on the so-called strategic profile of logistics potentials of success, which consists of: (1) first-order potentials, which are logistics resources, in particular the so-called key resources, constitu…
Studies on the interaction of C1q,a subcomponent of the first component of complement, with porins fromSalmonella minnesotaincorporated into artifici…
1990
AbstractPurified outer membrane proteins (OMP) of Salmonella minnesota, Re-form, were incorporated into liposomes. These induced in macrophages a chemiluminescence signal identical to that of the intact Re-form. This signal was abolished by preincubation of porin-containing liposomes with purified C1q. Incorporation of isolated OMP into black lipid membranes (BLM) resulted in channel-formation which could not be inhibited by isolated C1q. Additionally, incubation of OMP-containing liposomes with BLM resulted in pore-formation within the BLM. This was amplified when lipid A was present within the liposomes. Preincubation of OMP-containing liposomes with purified C1q abolished pore-formation …
Electrocatalytic properties of manganese and cobalt polyporphine films toward oxygen reduction reaction
2018
International audience; Novel member of polymetalloporphines, namely manganese polymetalloporphine of type I (pMnP-I) obtained by ion exchange from magnesium polyporphine of type I (pMgP-I) is reported for the first time and compared to its cobalt analogue (pCoP-I). Both polymer films have been obtained via two-step procedure: demetaladon of the pMgP-I electrode film via its exposure to trifluoroacetic acid solution, resulting in formation of the metal-free polyporphine of type I (pH(2)P-I) followed by electrochemically induced incorporation of Co or Mn ions from the acetonitrile solution of cobalt and manganese perchlorates. A further oxidative transformation of pCoP-I, polymer films has l…
Typical and Atypical Development of Visual Expertise for Print as Indexed by the Visual Word N1 (N170w) : A Systematic Review
2022
The visual word N1 (N170w) is an early brain ERP component that has been found to be a neurophysiological marker for print expertise, which is a prelexical requirement associated with reading development. To date, no other review has assimilated existing research on reading difficulties and atypical development of processes reflected in the N170w response. Hence, this systematic review synthesized results and evaluated neurophysiological and experimental procedures across different studies about visual print expertise in reading development. Literature databases were examined for relevant studies from 1995 to 2020 investigating the N170w response in individuals with or without reading disor…
Somatosensory Deviance Detection ERPs and Their Relationship to Analogous Auditory ERPs and Interoceptive Accuracy
2022
Abstract. Automatic deviance detection has been widely explored in terms of mismatch responses (mismatch negativity or mismatch response) and P3a components of event-related potentials (ERPs) under a predictive coding framework; however, the somatosensory mismatch response has been investigated less often regarding the different types of changes than its auditory counterpart. It is not known whether the deviance detection responses from different modalities correlate, reflecting a general prediction error mechanism of the central nervous system. Furthermore, interoceptive functions have been associated with predictive coding theory, but whether interoceptive accuracy correlates with devian…
