Investigations concerning the COX/5-LOX inhibiting and hydroxyl radical scavenging potencies of novel 4,5-diaryl isoselenazoles
2007
The aim of this study was to investigate 4,5-diaryl isoselenazoles as multiple target non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (MTNSAIDs) which can intervene into the inflammatory processes via different mechanisms of action creating a new class of compounds. Here we describe the synthesis of COX/LOX inhibitors which additionally reduce the level of reactive oxygen species, such as hydroxyl radicals which are well known for supporting inflammation processes in Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
Synthesis and in vitro antimicrobial activities of new (cyano-NNO-azoxy) pyrazole derivatives
2011
The antibacterial and antifungal activity of a series of products, in which the 1,5-dimethyl-4-(cyano- NNO-azoxy)pyrazol-3-yl and 1,3-dimethyl-4-(cyano-NNO-azoxy)pyrazol-5-yl moieties were linked to pyridine, pyrazole, isoxazole, thiophene and the furan ring, were examined. No molecule displayed activity against the Gram-negative bacteria tested. Conversely, some compounds displayed activity against two Staphylococcus aureus strains, including the methicillin resistant strain. All compounds displayed interesting antifungal activity, the most active compound of the series being the thiophene derivative 7a. This compound’s activity against Candida krusei and Candida glabrata (MIC = 0.25 and 0…
Metabolomics of Human Amniotic Fluid and Maternal Plasma during Normal Pregnancy
2016
Metabolic profiles of amniotic fluid and maternal blood are sources of valuable information about fetus development and can be potentially useful in diagnosis of pregnancy disorders. In this study, we applied 1H NMR-based metabolic profiling to track metabolic changes occurring in amniotic fluid (AF) and plasma (PL) of healthy mothers over the course of pregnancy. AF and PL samples were collected in the 2nd (T2) and 3rd (T3) trimester, prolonged pregnancy (PP) until time of delivery (TD). A multivariate data analysis of both biofluids reviled a metabolic switch-like transition between 2nd and 3rd trimester, which was followed by metabolic stabilization throughout the rest of pregnancy proba…
MTHFR 677C → T genotype modulates the effect of a 5-year supplementation with B-vitamins on homocysteine concentration: The SU.FOL.OM3 randomized con…
2018
Aims To study how MTHFR 677C→T genotype modulates the effect of supplementation with B-vitamins on total homocysteine (tHcy) and B-vitamin concentrations. Methods 2381 patients with a personal history of cardiovascular disease were randomly assigned to one of four groups: 1) B-vitamins alone (560 μg of 5-methyl-THF, 3 mg of vitamin B6 and 20 μg of vitamin B12), 2) n-3 fatty acids alone (600 mg of EPA and DHA in a 2:1 ratio), 3) B-vitamins and n-3 fatty acids, and 4) placebo. Participants were followed up for 4.7 years. At baseline and annually thereafter, biological parameters were assessed. Multivariate and linear mixed models were fit to study the interaction between B-vitamins and MTHFR …
SANIST: optimization of a technology for compound identification based on the European Union directive with applications in forensic, pharmaceutical …
2016
Electrospray Ionization and collision induced dissociation tandem mass spectrometry are usually employed to obtain compound identification through a mass spectra match. Different algorithms have been developed for this purpose (for example the nist match algorithm). These approaches compare the tandem mass spectra of the unknown analyte with the tandem mass spectra spectra of known compounds inserted in a database. The compounds are usually identified on the basis of spectral match value associated with a probability of recognition. However, this approach is not usually applied to multiple reaction monitoring transition spectra achieved by means of triple quadrupole apparatus, mainly due to…
Preparation and Characterization of P2 BCh Ring Systems (Ch=S, Se) and Their Reactivity with N-Heterocyclic Carbenes
2018
Four-membered rings with a P2BCh core (Ch = S, Se) have been synthesized via reaction of phosphinidene chalcogenide (Ar*P=Ch) and phosphaborene (Mes*P=BNR2). The mechanistic pathways towards these rings are explained by detailed computational work that confirmed the preference for the formation of P–P, not P–B, bonded systems, which seems counterintuitive given that both phosphorus atoms contain bulky ligands. The reactivity of the newly synthesized heterocycles, as well as that of the known (RPCh)n rings (n = 2, 3), was probed by the addition of Nheterocyclic carbenes, which revealed that all investigated compounds can act as sources of low-coordinate phosphorus species. peerReviewed
Amino polyphosphonates - chemical features and practical uses, environmental durability and biodegradation
2012
Growing concerns about the quality of the environment led to the introduction of complex system of safety assessment of synthetically manufactured and commonly applied chemicals. Sometimes, however, our knowledge of consequences that result from the usage of these substances, appears far later, than at the beginning of their application. Such situation is observed in the case of aminopolyphosphonates being an important subgroup of organophosphorus compounds. The increasing industrial and household applications, led to introduce thousand tons of polyphosphonates every year into the environment. These substances are difficult to determine in environmental samples because of lack of appropriat…
Ultrasound-Assisted Lactic Acid Fermentation of Bakraei (Citrus reticulata cv. Bakraei) Juice: Physicochemical and Bioactive Properties
2022
In this study, ultrasonication (US) (50 W, 30 kHz, 1–6 min) was used to increase the efficiency of Limosilactobacillus reuteri PTCC 1655 fermentation process (37 °C; 30 h) of Bakraei juice. Total sugars, pH, Brix, organic acids, vitamin C, polyphenols, antioxidant activity, α-amylase inhibition and anti-inflammatory properties were measured during the fermentation period. The results showed that by increasing the ultrasound time up to 5 min, pH, vitamin C, citric acid, and polyphenolic compounds decreased, while lactic acid, antioxidant capacity, α-amylase inhibition and anti-inflammatory properties were increased. When the ultrasound time was increased up to 6 min, co…

Toward the development of metal-based synthetic nucleases: DNA binding and oxidative DNA cleavage of a mixed copper(II) complex with N-(9H-purin-6-yl…
2009
Abstract The complex [Cu(N9-ABS)(phen) 2 ]·3.6H 2 O, H 2 N9-ABS = N -(9 H -purin-6-yl)benzenesulfonamide and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, has been synthesized and then characterized with the aid of X-ray diffraction, analytical, and spectroscopic techniques. The geometry of Cu(II) is distorted square pyramidal with the equatorial positions occupied by three N atoms from two phenantroline molecules and one N atom from the adenine ring of the sulfonamide ligand. The interaction of the complex with DNA was studied by means of viscosity measurements and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results pointed to a classic intercalation of the complex between the DNA base pairs. The complex was found to b…
