The World Hobbit Project in Finland : Audience responses and transmedial user practices

This article examines audience engagement with The Hobbit fantasy film trilogy as a participatory and transmedial experience. To do so, we use the data collected by The World Hobbit Project in order to investigate the transmedial user practices of the Finnish audience of the trilogy. We will, firstly, look at what kinds of transmedial user practices – and transmedia users – emerge from our data. Secondly, we will ask the following questions: How do transmedia users receive and experience the films? What are the meanings assigned to The Hobbit films and the fantasy texts and user practices related to them, and what do these meanings tell of the broader meanings and uses of fantasy? Doing so,…
How much can regional agri-environmental measures contribute to SOC stocking in the soils of Sicily?

Soils have a great potential in stocking soil organic carbon SOC, but how much can human activities, and particularly agricultural ones, contribute to increase (or decrease) the SOC content? Which kind of agricultural practices are the most effective? From the soil database of Sicily we have selected 52 profiles, whose first 40 cm from the soil surface were analyzed for the SOC, of which 15 analyzed also for nitrogen N content, localized in the clayey hills and limestone marine terraces of the western Sicily, cultivated with grain crops and orchards (mainly olive groves and vineyards), surveyed and analyzed in a period from 1995 to 2008. Gli Autori presentano il caso di una donna giunta alla 39,4 settimana di gestazione, regolarmente sottoposta ad esami clinici e strumentali che evidenziavano un decorso regolare della gravidanza eccetto oligoamnios. La paziente espletava il parto con feto nato vivo ma non vitale. L'esame esterno del cadavere evidenziava esclusivamente cianosi generalizzata. L'esame autoptico ha evidenziato cardiomegalia con incremento di tutte le cavità cardiache con rapporto cardio-toracico 6.5/8.5 ed un aspetto porcellanaceo delle pareti ventricolari di sinistra. Abstract AIM: Oral and dental health improved tremendously over the last fifty years in Italy but still prevalence of dental caries in children remains a significant clinical problem. This report describes the National Italian Guidelines for caries prevention. METHODOLOGY: A panel of experts coordinated by the Italian Society of Paediatric Dentistry (SIOI) planned to elaborate the national Italian guidelines for caries prevention in children.
