A Systematic Review of International Clinical Guidelines for Rehabilitation of People With Neurological Conditions: What Recommendations Are Made for…
2019
Background: Upper limb impairment is a common problem for people with neurological disabilities, affecting activity, performance, quality of life, and independence. Accurate, timely assessments are required for effective rehabilitation, and development of novel interventions. International consensus on upper limb assessment is needed to make research findings more meaningful, provide a benchmark for quality in clinical practice, more cost-effective neurorehabilitation and improved outcomes for neurological patients undergoing rehabilitation.Aim: To conduct a systematic review, as part of the output of a European COST Action, to identify what recommendations are made for upper limb assessmen…
Micro-interactional insights from the English as a foreign language classroom
2014
In this paper, we examine instances of the methods pupils deploy to do language policy in an English as a foreign language classroom in Sweden, where there is a locally practised English-only rule. Although we exemplify some more tacit methods of constructing a monolingual classroom (Slotte-Lüttge 2007), we focus primarily on instances where pupils police other pupils and on occasion even the teacher, when they are perceived not to be upholding the rule. This blatantly explicit method of pupils doing language policy, which we term language policing, generally serves to (re-) establish and maintain English as the medium of interaction and instruction. The data for this study consists of vide…
Live as you wish and ruin your life : Haybron on unhappiness and well-being
2014
This thesis examines the concepts of happiness, unhappiness and well-being developed by philosopher Daniel Haybron in his book The Pursuit of Unhappiness. The central thesis of this book is that human beings are not psychologically well-adapted to live in liberal societies, which are understood in this approach as option-rich environments. According to Haybron, in liberal societies people have freedom to choose whatever they want from a myriad of options in the pursuit of happiness. This condition, however, makes people prone to committing serious mistakes in choosing the options that are prudentially good for them. Haybron calls this phenomenon “systematic imprudence.” This systematic impr…
Understanding Language Teacher Identities : Conceptualizations, practices and change
2019
This chapter presents some new approaches and questions in language teacher identity research that could facilitate a better understanding of the work of language teachers, and as a consequence help teacher educators to support them in that work. Language teacher research has shown that periods of change play an important role in identity development. In the field of general teacher research, several studies have addressed the significance of transition phases and changes in curriculum for teacher identities and beliefs. However, there has been some research on the significance of teacher education and transition to full-time teaching for language teacher identity development. A more partic…
Mentaaliharjoittelu osana pianonsoiton ammattiopiskelijoiden harjoittelustrategioita
2012
2018
This paper purports to shed light on primary school teachers’ initial training in the field of creative writing, rewriting and rough draft practices. It analyses a corpus of various pieces of writing by school children and trainee teachers, collected through the implementation of a teaching unit using authors’ and children’s literature writers’ drafts and working documents with children aged 8-11 (CE2-CM) on the one hand, and with trainee teachers on the other. As part of a seminar on introduction to research, these trainee teachers thus questioned their own writing practices, their conception of rewriting and their teaching practices
Teachers’ beliefs and practices
2020
Why do teachers believe some practices are better than others? Why do they criticize, or even reject, certain practices whose effectiveness has (sometimes) been demonstrated by research? The articles in this dossier aim to simultaneously interrogate the practices and beliefs of teachers in 10 school systems and contrasting sociocultural contexts. While the dossier initially highlights the variation in the meanings of these two terms, it primarily interrogates change in education and the dilemmas that this raises – between acceptance of institutional instructions and professional expertise resulting from practice.

2013
Anotācija Promocijas darba mērķis ir izpētīt faktorus, kas ietekmē pieaugušo veselības izglītības darba organizāciju un vadību primārās veselības aprūpes māsas praksē, ietverot arī indivīda veselības kompetenci veidojošos faktorus, un izveidot uz pierādījumiem balstītus metodiskus ieteikumus pieaugušo veselības izglītības darba organizācijai un vadībai, kas būtu izmantojami gan māszinību studiju programmās, gan primārās veselības aprūpes līmenī strādājošo māsu tālākizglītībā. N= 827 iedzīvotāji un N=106 māsas. Izmantota faktoru analīze, korelācijas analīze, ANOVA, Kruskall-Wallis tests. Noskaidrots, ka indivīda veselības kompetenci ietekmē vairāki galvenie faktori, papildus tiem, dzimums, i…
Finnish Preschool and First-Grade Children's Use of Media at Home
2012
Publisher's PDF We investigated Finnish children’s use of print and electronic media in the home and their literacy development. Questionnaire data from 857 parents of preschoolers (collected in 2006 and 2007) and first graders (2008) showed that homes were well equipped with electronic media including Internet access in almost every home, although only a third of the children used the Internet. Television, print media, and videos/DVDs were more commonly used than computers. Most first graders but few preschoolers had mobile phones. Most parents read bedtime stories, had a sizable number of children’s books, and library visits were common. Boys´ and girls’ skills in reading did not differ a…
Los procesos inferenciales en lectores con síndrome de Down
2013
The aim of this work is to know if the source of the difficulty in making inferences, readers with Down syndrome, is in access to prior knowledge or constructing ideas from purely textual knowledge (based on Saldaña and Frith, 2002 for autism). Involved a sample of 20 students with Down syndrome and mild mental retardation (mean IQ = 60) and a control group of 20 children without cognitive deficits. They were matched as to their extent read metal age via Prueba de Evaluación del Retraso Lector (average 8 years). We created two experimental situations: a) subjects had to generate inferences based on physical knowledge, b) social inferences about knowledge. The ability to check and reaction t…
