Small for gestational age (SGA) neonates show reduced suppressive activity of their regulatory T cells

Little information exists concerning the role of fetal regulatory T cells (Tregs) during intrauterine development. We examined whether complications such as reduced birth weight or the occurrence of preterm labor were associated with deficiencies in the number or in the immunosuppressive activity of Tregs in the fetal circulation. Their total number did not change during normal or complicated pregnancy. In contrast, their level of FoxP3 expression decreased continuously with gestational age and was significantly reduced in the presence of spontaneous term, but not preterm labor. Transient expression of synaptogyrin in the ganglionic eminence of the human fetal brain

Summary The ganglionic eminence (GE) representing a conspicuous bulb-like elevation of the telencephalic proliferative zone has recently been shown to be involved in the establishment of cortical connections. This study demonstrates the presence of synaptogyrin-immunoreactivity in a large number of cell bodies of the human GE between 12 and 20 weeks of gestation. From the 20 th week onwards synaptogyrin expression sharply declines. No immunoreactive structures are detectable in the 23 rd week or later. An experimental study on magnetic esophageal compression anastomosis in piglets.

Abstract Introduction Fashioning a patent, watertight anastomosis in patients with esophageal atresia is a challenging task in pediatric surgery, particularly when performed under tension. A reproducible suture-less alternative would decrease operative time. We evaluated magnetic esophageal compression anastomoses in a novel bypass-loop swine model. Methods Eight-week-old piglets underwent thoracotomy to mobilize the esophagus at the carina to create a U-shaped loop. LEIOMYOMA IN THE VESICOVAGINAL SPACE: A CASE REPORT

The histological features of the leiomyomas located in the vesicovaginal space are similar despite their different anatomic origin. Therefore it is necessary to follow other criteria in order to determine the sites from which they originate. A case of an extravesical pedunculated leiomyoma of the bladder, which had grown in the vesicovaginal space, is reported. Today’s imaging studies and surgical findings are of great value in helping to localize the structure from which the tumour has arisen.

Despite the kidney having no direct implications for lipoproteins metabolism, advanced CKD dyslipidemia is usually present in patients with CKD, and the frequent lipid and lipoprotein alterations occurring in these patients play a role of primary importance in the development of CVD. Although hypertriglyceridemia is the main disorder, a number of lipoprotein abnormalities occur in these patients. Effects of chronic alcohol consumption on enzyme activities and active methionine absorption in the small intestine of pregnant rats.

The present study evaluates the effect of chronic alcohol intake on the intestinal transport of methionine during pregnancy. For this purpose, we have used an in vitro technique that allows measurement of the unidirectional influx of the amino acids across the brush-border membrane of the rat mid-jejunum, and the basolateral membrane enzyme Na+, K+-ATPase was also evaluated in the duodenum and jejunum.
