Identification of Risk Factors Associated with Obesity and Overweight-A Machine Learning Overview.
2020
Social determining factors such as the adverse influence of globalization, supermarket growth, fast unplanned urbanization, sedentary lifestyle, economy, and social position slowly develop behavioral risk factors in humans. Behavioral risk factors such as unhealthy habits, improper diet, and physical inactivity lead to physiological risks, and &ldquo
Merging models of biomineralisation with concepts of nonclassical crystallisation: is a liquid amorphous precursor involved in the formation of the p…
2012
16 pages; International audience; The calcitic prisms of Pinna nobilis (Pinnidae, Linnaeus 1758) are shown to be perfect examples of a mesocrystalline material. Based on their ultrastructure and on the occurrence of an amorphous transient precursor during the early stages of prism formation, we provide evidence for the pathway of mesocrystallisation proposed by Seto et al. (2012), which proceeds not by self-organized oriented attachment of crystalline nano-bricks but by aggregation of initially amorphous nanogranules which later transform by epitaxial nucleation to a threedimensional array of well aligned nanocrystals. We further fathom the role of a liquid amorphous calcium carbonate in bi…
Tuning the propagation constant by the anti-crossing bandgap prism coupling technique.
2012
A novel plasmonic structure based on an anticrossing bandgap prism coupling technique is proposed. The study has been carried out using photonic crystals based on diffraction gratings (bounded by dielectrics with identical dielectric functions) together with a high refractive index prism to couple the long-range surface plasmon polaritons to photons. We analyse the structure and demonstrate the ability for tuning the propagation constants of plasmon modes by changing the thickness of the gold grating. The comparison to non-bandgap techniques is studied, and the influence of the plasmonic configuration on the plasmon propagation constant is discussed as well. Experimental measurements were a…
Influence of FRP wrapping techniques on the compressive behavior of concrete prisms
2006
Abstract Results of an experimental investigation on the compressive behavior of concrete prisms with square cross-section, externally wrapped with carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) sheets are presented. The effects of the following parameters were analyzed: local reinforcement at the corners and continuous layers; horizontal and vertical discontinuous strips; number of continuous layers—length of specimens. An analytical model is proposed to determine the maximum bearing capacity of compressed concrete members with square cross-section and externally wrapped with FRP for the different configurations examined, and also able to consider the strength reduction with the length increase of…
Synthesis by solution combustion of inorganic blue pigments MFe2(P2O7)2: Influence of the cation M (Zn2+, Co2+, Cu2+, and Mg2+) on their optical prop…
2020
Abstract The aim of this work is to find the effect of the cation M (Zn2+, Co2+, Cu2+, and Mg2+) on the optical properties of MFe2(P2O7)2 synthesized by solution combustion. The crystal structure of the powders was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Infrared spectroscopy (IR), and Raman spectroscopy. The presence of Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions in the pigments was studied using Mossbauer spectroscopy (MS), these spectra showed at 298 K three well-defined Mossbauer doublets belonging to octahedral S1 site and S3 site of Fe3+ and trigonal prismatic S2 site of Fe2+, confirming the formation of ZnFe2(P2O7)2, CoFe2(P2O7)2 and MgFe2(P2O7)2 structures, while in CuFe2(P2O7)2 there is no presence of trigo…
An Evanescent Field Optical Microscope
1989
We present a new form of optical microscope. An evanescent field is produced in the lower index medium of an ATR system and modulated by a sample deposited on the hypotenuse of the prism. A sharpened fiber optic probes this field and gives information about the topography of the surface.
A new enneanuclear nickel(II) cluster with a rectangular face-centered trigonal prism structure and cluster glass behavior.
2011
An enneanuclear nickel(II) complex with a rectangular face-centered trigonal prism structure bridged by μ(2)-pyrazolate, μ(6)-CO(3)(2-) and μ(3)-OH(-) groups was synthesized. It displays cluster glass-like magnetic behavior assigned to the single molecule magnet properties of {Ni(9)} clusters and weak intercluster interaction.
Field-induced slow relaxation of magnetisation in two one-dimensional homometallic dysprosium(iii) complexes based on alpha- and beta-amino acids.
2020
Two one-dimensional dysprosium(III) complexes based on α-glycine (gly) and β-alanine (β-ala) amino acids, with the formula {[Dy2(gly)6(H2O)4](ClO4)6·5H2O}n (1) and {[Dy2(β-ala)6(H2O)4](ClO4)6·H2O}n (2), have been synthesised and characterised structurally and magnetically. Both compounds crystallise in the triclinic system with the space group P. In 1, two DyIII ions are eight-coordinate and bound to six oxygen atoms from six gly ligands and two oxygen atoms from two water molecules, showing different geometries (bicapped trigonal prism and square antiprism). In 2, two DyIII ions are nine-coordinate and bound to seven oxygen atoms from six β-ala ligands and two oxygen atoms from two water m…
Effects of school-based interventions on motivation towards physical activity in children and adolescents: Protocol for a systematic review
2019
Background Recent studies have observed low levels of physical activity in children and adolescents worldwide. Physical activity interventions are increasingly carried out to counteract this development. The school environment is an ideal setting for such interventions to take place as large numbers of children and adolescents can be addressed. With the assumption that motivation is the key to initiate and sustain beneficial health behaviors, theory-based intervention studies apply motivational strategies to increase students’ participation in physical activity. The main objective of this systematic review will be to analyze the effects of school-based physical activity interventions on a v…
Lifetime measurements of excited states in neutron-rich nuclei around 48 Ca
2009
The lifetimes of the first excited states of the N = 30 isotones 50Ca and 51Sc and the Z = 18 isotopes 44−46Ar isotopes have been determined using a novel technique that combines the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift method with the CLARA-PRISMA spectrometers in multinucleon transfer reactions. The results allow determinination of the effective charges above 48Ca and test the strength of the N = 28 magic number when moving away from the stability line.
