Integrative strategy formation process and the management of complex work - a microorganizational analisys
2010
The goal of this study is to analyse how the strategy formation process takes place; studying the relevance of the integrative perspective and the use of the variables rationality, involvement and vision; Verifying the relationship between an integrative strategy formation process and the management of work and the consequences of this relationship in terms of performance, identifying the causes for a better fit; Also, verify the propositions that have been formulated and looking for new variables that could affect the relationship between strategic process and work management. It has been adopted a qualitative methodology through a study case. After the case analysis it has been identified…
Balancing Flexibility and Coherence: Information Exchange in a Paper Machinery Project
1999
The problem of balancing coherence and flexibility in collaborative information system design is approached here with two pairs of concepts. Boundary objects can support communication for perspective taking between communities of practice. Conscripting devices can support communication for perspective making within a community of practice. These theoretical lenses are used to study the uses of the technical specification in paper machine projects. Our study showed that as a boundary object it provided enough flexibility to allow negotiations, and sufficient local structure, for carrying out work in both communities of practice, the customer and the manufacturer. As a conscription device in …
HOLONIC PRODUCTION SYSTEM TO OBTAIN FLEXIBILITY FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
2008
The Holonic Production System (HPS) can be a valid choice to overcome the problems of traditional production sys-tems’ architectures, thanks to its capability to adapt and react to changes in the business environment whilst being able to maintain systemic synergies and coordination. The HPS is made of holons seen as functional production units which are simultaneously autonomous and cooperative. Although the holonic approach could represent a valid solution in order to pursue the necessary levels of agility of production systems, they have been scarcely implemented in practice and even less studied from a business studies perspective. The purpose of this discussion paper is to show the bene…
Temporary organisations in the creation of dynamic capabilities: effects of temporariness on innovative capacity and strategic flexibility
2020
The dynamic capabilities (DCs) of an organisation refer to its ability to integrate and renew existing competences as circumstances may change. Although research has considered various aspects of D...
Context Aware Mobile Learning as a Factor for Economic Growth
2015
Abstract Mobile technologies have become an integral tool for communication and information delivery. It transformed educational paradigms from traditional one-size-fits-all to personalized and context aware learning. Such education can support human resources development, resulting in improved outcomes. Quality of education and working skills are the important driving force for economic development. This paper deals with the role of mobile learning in education, which is unique in terms of flexibility of time and location, but it requires extra planning and analyses of appropriate technologies during learning design process. The contextual information can be static, but some parts are dyna…
Determinants of employee well-being in project work
2021
Projects are supposed to foster innovation and flexibility and to create better conditions for learning. Accordingly, project work usually has a positive connotation for both, firms and the individ...
Redesigning Computer-Supported Work Processes with Dual Information Systems: The Work Process Benchmarking Service
1999
The conceptual design of most computer-based information systems reflects a dualism of technology. During the development phase, part of the work-domain-related knowledge is formalized and encoded in the software, making it difficult for users to reflect on and use this knowledge. This design/use dualism contributes to the deterioration of the interpretive flexibility of information systems. We propose an information systems architecture called Dual Information Systems (DIS) that helps bridge the design/use dualism by providing organizations with a set of services that enable and reinforce both effective, institutionalized working and the questioning and (re)construction of computer-support…
Contributions to Improve the Sustainability in Services Based Organizations
2018
The sustainability of the services based organization consist on its ability to monitor the external environment about opportunities, changes, trends and risks, as well as the ability to learn, change and innovate. To reach the sustainability threshold, the organization must focus on both results and processes. A viable solution is to adopt a quality strategy that allows a perceptible perception of its products to its customers. This research purpose is to identify the extent of which organizations are sustainable and seek to meet the interests of all the involved stakeholders, as well as to help the organizations to identify areas where they can improve their performance.
Process control in the development of game-based learning environments
2009
This paper examines the development process of digital game-based learning environments (GBLE), focusing on the process control. The aim is to explore the alternatives to process control in GBLE development and provide guidelines for planning and carrying out process control in GBLE projects. This study is a part of the research project Human-Centered Design of Game-Based Learning Environments. The overall aim of the project is to construct a multidisciplinary and user-driven process for the development of digital GBLEs. The study was conducted according to the principles of development research and action research. The action research cycles consisted of four game development projects. The…
The Application of an Information System in the E-Government of Colombia to Improve Service to Citizens
2020
One of the main objectives of e-government is the use of data to improve processes, identify opportunities and make better decisions, this article describes a success story in the government of Colombia in building an information system that makes use of data exploitation techniques in one of the most important state entities in the country that guides, inspects, monitors and controls registry offices and notaries. The article describes the context and reasons why the project was carried out along with the architecture that was used to design and develop the information system that is currently used to monitor and control in a timely, clear, effective and efficient service delivery to citiz…
