Monitoring of stress distribution in damaged small-scale masonry walls by using two innovative sensors

2023

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) represents a strategic solution for the preservation of cultural heritage buildings. Existing masonry structures often suffer reductions in mechanical performances due to physiological aging of material constituents, external actions, and effect of catastrophic natural events. In many cases, the prompt prediction of damage in masonry elements is difficult and it can cause sudden collapses, compromising the safety of people. The proposed experimental study examines the effectiveness of two low-cost and innovative stress sensors, i.e. piezoelectric and capacitive stress sensors, for SHM of masonry structures. To this scope, the sensors were embedded in the m…

Studies in organic mass spectrometry. Part 23. Role of the aroyl group on the competitive fragmentation reactions of the molecular ion of aroylanilid…

1999

The 70 eV and mass-analysed ion kinetic energy (MIKE) spectra of some thiophenecarboxanilides and benzoylanilides (1–10) have been compared in order to investigate the role of the aroyl (or heteroaroyl) moiety on the abundance of the competitive fragmentation reactions occurring in their molecular ions (amide–bond cleavage and phenol radical ion formation). It has been shown that the electron ionisation induced decompositions with high (70 eV) and low (MIKE) internal energy excess are qualitatively similar, but remarkable quantitative differences have been observed that can be accounted for in terms of the different effectiveness in the transmission of electronic effects of substituents in …

In situ measurements of background aerosol and subvisible cirrus in the tropical tropopause region

2002

[1] In situ aerosol measurements were performed in the Indian Ocean Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) region during the Airborne Polar Experiment-Third European Stratospheric Experiment on Ozone (APE-THESEO) field campaign based in Mahe, Seychelles between 24 February and 6 March 1999. These are measurements of particle size distributions with a laser optical particle counter of the Forward Scattering Spectrometer Probe (FSSP)-300 type operated on the Russian M-55 high-altitude research aircraft Geophysica in the tropical upper troposphere and lower stratosphere up to altitudes of 21 km. On 24 and 27 February 1999, ultrathin layers of cirrus clouds were penetrated by Geophysica directly…

THE DEVELOPMENT OF BUSINESS LOGISTICS CONCEPT. FROM OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT OF LOGISTICS PROCESSES TO THE INTEGRATED FLOW MANAGEMENT WITHIN THE SUPPLY…

2019

Background: Firms constantly search for ways enabling them to achieve and maintain longterm competitive advantage. Among the most significant concepts influencing the achievement of such an advantage by a firm, an important role is played by the business logistics concept. The aim of the chapter is to identify the most important stages of the logistics concept development, ranging from the operational management of logistics processes to the integrated flow management throughout the entire supply network. Methods: The chapter has a conceptual character. A review of significant works devoted to the development of the logistics concept in business was carried out. Within the chapter there is …

Representation of Stationary Multivariate Gaussian Processes Fractional Differential Approach

2011

In this paper, the fractional spectral moments method (H-FSM) is used to generate stationary Gaussian multivariate processes with assigned power spectral density matrix. To this aim, firstly the N-variate process is expressed as sum of N fully coherent normal random vectors, and then, the representation in terms of HFSM is used.

Efficacy of the cloud computing technology in the management of communications and business processes of the companies

2016

W artykule zbadano tendencje rozwoju i stosowania różnych klas systemów informatycznych w zarządzaniu w relacji do rodzajów procesów biznesowych. Zaprezentowano krótki przegląd aktualnego stanu wykorzystania technologii chmury obliczeniowej na świecie i na Ukrainie. Korzyści wynikające z zastosowania modelu "SaaS - Software as a Service" zostały wyjaśnione na przykładzie innowacji międzynarodowego projektu "Bitrix 24", w którym zrealizowane zostały główne cele systemów CRM w połączeniu z szerokimi możliwościami koordynacji procesów komunikacyjnych i biznesowych nowoczesnych firm. Projekt ten został przetłumaczony na większość języków europejskich i wykorzystuje narzędzia społecznego środowi…

Simultaneous optimization of harvest schedule and measurement strategy

2013

In many recent studies, the value of forest inventory information in the harvest scheduling has been examined. Usually only the profitability of measuring simultaneously all the stands in the area is examined. Yet, it may be more profitable to concentrate the measurement efforts to some subset of them. In this paper, the authors demonstrate that stochastic optimization can be used for defining the optimal measurement strategy simultaneously with the harvest decisions. The results show that without end-inventory constraints, it was most profitable to measure the stands that were just below the medium age. Measuring the oldest stands was not profitable at all. It turned out to be profitable t…

How Do Mobile ICTs Enable Organizational Fluidity: Toward a Theoretical Framework

2017

Abstract The focus of this theoretical paper is to investigate how mobile information and communication technologies (ICTs) give rise to the notion of organizational fluidity. Drawing upon previous literature, five affordances of mobile ICTs − mobility, connectedness, interoperability, identifiability, and personalization − are discussed. Delving into the concept of organizational fluidity, the paper captures three dimensions of organizational fluidity, namely, team fluidity, task fluidity, and control fluidity. The paper then develops propositions on how different combinations of the mobile ICT affordances influence each of the dimensions of organizational fluidity. The contributions and i…

Teaching programming by emphasizing self-direction: How did students react to the active role required of them?

2013

Lecturing is known to be a controversial form of teaching. With massed classrooms, in particular, it tends to constrain the active participation of students. One of the remedies applied to programming education is to use technology that can vitalize interaction in the classroom, while another is to base teaching increasingly on programming activities. In this article, we present the first results of an exploratory study, in which we teach programming without lectures, exams, or grades, by heavily emphasizing programming activity, and, in a pedagogical sense, student self-direction. This article investigates how students reacted to the active role required of them and what issues emerged in …
