Maux de l'économie, mots des économistes

1990

L'applica…

$$PO^2$$ - A Process and Observation Ontology in Food Science. Application to Dairy Gels

2016

This paper focuses on the knowledge representation task for an interdisciplinary project called Delicious concerning the production and transformation processes in food science. The originality of this project is to combine data from different disciplines like food composition, food structure, sensorial perception and nutrition. Available data sets are described using different vocabularies and are stored in different formats. Therefore there is a need to define an ontology, called \(PO^2\) (Process and Observation Ontology), as a common and standardized vocabulary for this project. The scenario 6 of the NeON methodology was used for building \(PO^2\) and the core component is implemented i…

The Production of Disqualified Youth Through Basic Vocational Education and Training Provision: Examples from Valencia

2019

Basic Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Spain is specifically addressed to young students that are previously categorized as early school leavers in the educational system. In this chapter, we approach this type of VET provision by focusing specifically on its influence on youth production. By doing so, we attempt to show connections among the training provided in a specific Spanish region and the youngsters’ pathways. This will be accounted in terms of the constraints and possibilities it provides the youngster, and both will be examined under a dimensional social justice theory focusing on the professional transitions and social participation it enables. Overall, we aim to approa…

Combination of Searches for Invisible Higgs Boson Decays with the ATLAS Experiment

2019

Dark matter particles, if sufficiently light, may be produced in decays of the Higgs boson. This Letter presents a statistical combination of searches for H → invisible decays where H is produced according to the standard model via vector boson fusion, Z(ℓℓ)H, and W/Z(had)H, all performed with the ATLAS detector using 36.1  fb⁻¹ of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of √s = 13  TeV at the LHC. In combination with the results at √s = 7 and 8 TeV, an exclusion limit on the H → invisible branching ratio of 0.26(0.17-0.05+0.07) at 95% confidence level is observed (expected).

Measurement methodology for greenhouse gas emissions from storage of forest chips–A review

2015

Abstract Research on greenhouse gas emission related to solid biofuels has focused mainly on the emissions from end use and the production chain. GHG emissions from the storage of forest chips have not received much attention in recent literature. In order for EU emission reduction targets to be fully understood, emissions from solid biofuel storage needs to be better described. Usually emissions from chip piles have been modelled using studies from organic waste composting but these two materials can differ appreciably; for example the C/N-ratio and moisture content. Herein, previous studies on greenhouse gas emissions from forest chips piles during storage are reviewed. The objective is t…

A Tool for Energy Management and Cost Assessment of Pumps in Waste Water Treatment Plants

2017

Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTPs) are generally considered energy intensive. Substantial energy saving potentials have been identified by several authors. Pumps consume around 12% of the overall WWTP energy consumption. In this paper we propose a methodology that uses the sensors commonly installed in WWTPs, such as volume and energy sensors, to perform energy benchmarking on pumps. The relationship between energy efficiency and flow rate is used to detect specific problems, and potential solutions are proposed, taking into consideration economical and environmental criteria (cost of externalities in energy production). The methodology integrates energy benchmarking, data-mining, and eco…

Sexual and reproductive traits of Hypania invalida (Polychaeta, Ampharetidae): a remarkable invasive species in Central European waterways

2010

SUMMARY 1. The Ponto-Caspian polychaete Hypania invalida (Archiv fur Naturgeschichte, 1860, 26, 109) is undergoing rapid range expansion in the Rhine and other central European waterways. We examined its reproductive traits in an attempt to account for its remarkable invasive success. 2. For the first time in this species, we found males, dioecy (gonochorism) and an exclusively sexual mode of reproduction; no indication for hermaphroditism or (unisexual) partheno- genesis, that could explain the rapid range expansion of H. invalida, was found. 3. Our experimental evidence shows that H. invalida reproduces by males discharging their sperm into the water column while eggs are retained and fer…

Competition and horizontal integration in maritime freight transport

2010

This paper develops a theoretical model for freight transport characterized by competition between means of transport (the road and maritime sectors), where modes are perceived as differentiated products. Competitive behavior is assumed in the road freight sector, and there are constant returns to scale. In contrast, the freight maritime sector is characterized by oligopolistic behavior, where shipping lines enjoy economies of scale. The market equilibrium where the shipping lines behave as profit maximizers, provides a first approximation to the determinants of market shares, profits, and user welfare. We then characterize the equilibrium when horizontal integration of shipping lines occur…

Numerical simulation of wave energy production through experimental tool

2017

Wave energy is highly desirable resource and recent international reports underline its major relevance on global renewable energy in future. In general, the first step is a correct WEC (Wave Energy Converter) sizing and design. The aim of this paper is a presentation of an application of one experimental tool to define the external floating structure of WEC realized by University of Palermo. This new electric device could be another energy possibility for small islands in the Mediterranean Sea as Pantelleria, Lampedusa or Malta.

Benefits of the relations between editorial board members and scholarly journals. The case of Ibero-American journals of psychology

2017

[EN]: The objective of the present work is to delve into the publication habits of members of editorial committees of Ibero-American journals of psychology, collected in the Web of Science (WoS) between the years 2013 and 2015. Different bibliometric indicators were used and the results reveal a disparity in the participation of editorial board members from one journal to another, including a shorter article acceptance time and a larger number of citations, mainly in Web of Science and BIOSIS. Many of the editorial board members are researchers of recognized prestige in their discipline; therefore, by publishing articles in the journals in which they play a role, they offer a guarantee of s…
