Edutec : revista electrónica de tecnología educativa

2015

Labor Market Flexibility and Unemployment: New Empirical Evidence of Static and Dynamic Effects

2012

The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationship between labor market flexibility and unemployment outcomes. Using a panel of 97 countries from 1985 to 2008, the results of the paper suggest that improvements in labor market flexibility have a statistically and significant negative impact on unemployment outcomes (over unemployment, youth unemployment, and long-term unemployment). Among the different labor market flexibility indicators analyzed, hiring and firing regulations and hiring costs are found to have the strongest effect.

Fermented Honey and Manna Ash Products: Novel Ecological Niches of Wine Yeasts

2019

The selection of novel strains of yeasts is still relevant to improve flavour of wines produced around the word. Several food niches have not been microbiologically investigated and they might represent important sources of microorganisms with technological aptitudes, e.g. in wine industry. To this purpose, two novel yeast communities associated with matrices rich in carbohydrates and characterized by low levels of water activity (aw), such as fermented honey by-products (FHP) and “Manna” ash products (MAP) extracted from Fraxinus angustifolia (Oleaceae), were investigated. FHP contain mainly fructose and glucose, while MAP ash is mainly characterized by high concentrations of mannitol, fru…

The cost advantage of Sicilian wine farms

2013

This study presents the results of research carried out on a Sicilian wine farm in order to demonstrat e the economic convenience of the mechanized harvest. After the determination of the minimum optimal farm size that justifies the introduction of grape harve ster in the farm, it has been estimated production cost and the relative profitability of two wine grape cultiv ars (Chardonnay and Nero d’Avola), comparing three hypotheses of harvest: manual, with farm property g rape harvester and with rented grape harvester. The economic analysis shows that the introduction of th e grape harvester in the wine farm is justified in large sized farms. However, even in small farms the use o f rented g…

Validation and biochemical characterisation of beneficial argan oil treatment in biomass propagation for industrial active dry yeast production

2019

Abstract Biomass propagation for the production of active dry yeasts (ADY) is an economically important industrial process where cellular oxidative stress significantly limits yield and fermentative capacity in the final product. Oxidative stress affects macromolecular cell components, such as lipid and proteins, thus impairing many different cellular processes. Its detrimental effect is prevented and alleviated by complex signalling, detoxifying and protein protecting systems, which can be induced by antioxidant treatments. Here we validate the general beneficial effect of argan oil treatment in bench-top simulations of industrial yeast biomass propagation as an effective technological str…

An Ontology-Based Monitoring System in Vineyards of the Burgundy Region

2019

Given the France's rich wine heritage as well as its pioneering position as the world's second wine producer, the production of high quality wines plays a role of primary importance. The recent development of IOT and efficient big data processing has been shown to provide purposeful issue to permanent monitoring during the entire wine making process. Standing within this trend, we introduce in this paper an intelligent system for vineyards monitoring in the Burgundy region. The main trust of the proposed system relies on the use of the Swrl rules in WineCloud ontology. The design of the ontology is mainly based on information gathered from interviews with wine growers. In addition, sensor d…
