Abstract Objective Propranolol-induced involution is a unique biological feature of some pediatric vascular tumors, for instance infantile hemangioma (IH), cerebral cavernoma or chorioangioma. Currently, the cellular origin of these distinct tumors is unclear. Background: We previously reported that lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) promoted cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in vitro via one of its G protein-coupled receptor subtypes, LPA3. In this study, we examined the role of LPA3 in cardiac hypertrophy induced by isoproterenol (ISO) and myocardial infarction. LAS190792 is a novel muscarinic antagonist and β2-adrenoceptor agonist in development for chronic respiratory diseases. This study investigated the pharmacological profile of LAS190792 in comparison to batefenterol, tiotropium, indacaterol and olodaterol. LAS190792 is potent at the human M3 receptor (pIC50: 8.8 in binding assays). Micellar Liquid Chromatography:  A Worthy Technique for the Determination of β-Antagonists in Urine Samples

Several beta-antagonists (acebutolol, atenolol, celiprolol, labetalol, metoprolol, nadolol, propranolol) were determined in urine samples with fluorometric detection after direct injection, in less than 15 min, with a micellar mobile phase of 0.1 M sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), 15% propanol, and 1% triethylamine at pH 3. The limits of detection (38 criterion) were usually between 3 and 30 ng/mL. The addition of propanol and triethylamine and the reduction of the pH of the mobile phase improved the efficiency of the chromatographic peaks that was rather low in pure micellar eluents. Control of the production of oxygen intermediates of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes and monocytes by beta-adrenergic receptors.

The control by beta-adrenergic receptors of the production of oxygen radicals by zymosan-stimulated human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) and monocytes (M phi) was studied in vitro by means of chemiluminescence. In addition we asked whether PMN and M phi exhibit differential sensitivity to beta-adrenergic stimulation. For beta-adrenergic stimulation we applied fenoterol ranging from 10(-5) to 10(-9) M x 2.7. We found a dose-dependent suppression of the production of oxygen radicals, the ID50 being approximately 10(-6) M both for PMN and M phi. Influence of digoxin on sinus node function after pharmacologic autonomic blockade.

The effect of iv digoxin on normal sinus node function was studied after pharmacologic autonomic blockade (AB) in ten patients. Sinus cycle length (SCL), sinus node recovery time (SNRT) and sinoatrial conduction time (SACT) were determined before and after AB with propranolol (0.2 mg/kg body weight) and atropine sulfate (0.04 mg/kg body weight) iv, and 15 min, 30 min, and 45 min after 1 mg iv digoxin. AB resulted in a significant decrease (P less than 0.01) in SCL (916 +/- 158 to 716 +/- 120 ms), in SNRT (1,229 +/- 221 to 871 +/- 190 ms), and in SACT (79 +/- 34 to 44 +/- 10 ms). Cardiovascular control and time domain granger causality: Insights from selective autonomic blockade

We studied causal relations among heart period (HP), systolic arterial pressure (SAP) and respiration (R) according to the definition of Granger causality in the time domain. Autonomic pharmacological challenges were used to alter the complexity of cardiovascular control. Atropine (AT), propranolol and clonidine (CL) were administered to block muscarinic receptors, β-adrenergic receptors and centrally sympathetic outflow, respectively.
