A survey of dentists' practice in the restoration of the shortened dental arch.

Objectives: The aim of this survey was to determine how a sample of dentists working in general dental practice in the UK sought to restore the mouths of patients who had shortened dental arches (SDAs). Study design: A survey was conducted over a period of six months on four commercial dental laboratories. Cases of SDAs comprising the anterior teeth and 2 to 4 premolars were examined; dental prescriptions were scrutinized and a special data collection form was completed accordingly. Thrombocytopenia-absent radius (TAR) syndrome is a congenital malformation in which affected individuals present reductions in the number of platelets, hypoplasia, or absence of radial bone unilaterally or bilaterally. Hematologic, skeletal, cardiac (particularly tetralogy of Fallot and septal-atrial defects), and gastrointestinal anomalies are most commonly associated with TAR syndrome. Skeletal changes result in a higher risk of dental and craniofacial trauma in patients with the syndrome. Fractal-structured multifocal intraocular lens

[EN] In this work, we present a new concept of IOL design inspired by the demonstrated properties of reduced chromatic aberration and extended depth of focus of Fractal zone plates. A detailed description of a proof of concept IOL is provided. The result was numerically characterized, and fabricated by lathe turning. The prototype was tested in vitro using dedicated optical system and software. The aim of this study was to investigate the soundness of in silico finite element model (FEM) in the assessment of strain in the femur and in the components fixing the periprosthetic fracture in elderly patients after hip arthroplasty. From a group of 55 patients, aged 27–95, treated due to fractures after hip replacement in 2012–2018, 18 patients were separated out, aged over 85, out of whom 7 had type C fractures, according to the Vancouver classification.
