Positive Psychological Assessment in Latin America

This chapter describes the development and adaptation of instruments to assess Positive Psychology’s constructs in Latin America. Results from the conducted literature review are presented according to PP pillars, as proposed by Seligman: positive emotions, positive traits, positive institutions and positive relationships. The criteria used to analyze the assessment instruments found included country’s contribution, number of tests locally developed vs adapted tests, psychometric properties of assessment instruments and theoretical models in which tests are grounded.

Introduction Bipolar disorder (BD) is a heterogeneous disorder needing personalized and shared decisions. We aimed to empirically develop a cluster-based classification that allocates patients according to their severity for helping clinicians in these processes. Altogether 1,285 Finnish children were followed up from the end of kindergarten through Grade 1. All were nonreaders at school entrance. The aim was to delineate predictors of resistance to treatment that are evidenced as little or no reading progress during Grade 1. On the basis of reading achievement in Grade 1 spring, four subgroups were formed. These were fast, average, and slow reading acquisition and slow progress in both reading and math. Objective: Several studies carried out over the last years show that patients' adjustment is very important to the past experiences of people with cancer. In our study of 96 subjects with cancer, we examined whether patient's working model of attachment anxiety/avoidance and perceptions of social support predicts adjustment to cancer.
