Entanglement control in hybrid optomechanical systems

We demonstrate the control of entanglement in a hybrid optomechanical system comprising an optical cavity with a mechanical end-mirror and an intracavity Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). Pulsed laser light (tuned within realistic experimental conditions) is shown to induce an almost sixfold increase of the atom-mirror entanglement and to be responsible for interesting dynamics between such mesoscopic systems. In order to assess the advantages offered by the proposed control technique, we compare the time-dependent dynamics of the system under constant pumping with the evolution due to the modulated laser light.

International audience; Pulsed electric field (PEF) processing has emerged as a promising technology in the development of tailor-made processes to effectively control the enzyme activity. It has been proven as an effective technique for the preservation of food products as it can result in substantial inactivation of most undesirable enzymes. When compared to microbial inactivation, however, large specific energy inputs are required to inactivate enzymes. The objective of this PhD work is to estimate the potentiality of a laser surface melting treatment on the improvement of the stainless steel 304L corrosion resistance, surface treatments by laser can be revisited on the basis of a recent change in the laser technology. Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy in the treatment of pain and other symptoms in fibromyalgia : a randomized controlled study

Low-energy pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy has been suggested as a promising therapy to increase microcirculation, which is of great concern in patients with fibromyalgia. This study evaluated the effectiveness of PEMF therapy on the treatment of fibromyalgia. A group of 108 women with fibromyalgia were allocated to a 12-week treatment period with an active Bio-Electro-Magnetic-Energy-Regulation (BEMER) device and a similar treatment period with an inactive device. Expression in Streptomyces lividans of Nonomuraea genes cloned in an artificial chromosome

Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis for the discrimination of Oenococcus oeni isolates from different wine-growing regions in Germany

Reliable techniques are needed for the identification individual Oenococcus oeni strains with desirable flavor characteristics and to monitor the survival and contribution of inoculated and indigenous bacteria. Therefore, we investigated the suitability of pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) for the discrimination of 65 O. oeni isolates from six different wine-producing regions in Germany. Among the restriction enzymes tested, genomic DNA digestions with Sfi I were most effective by displaying 56 (86%) different banding profiles. Evidence of Genomic Instability in Campylobacter jejuni Isolated from Poultry

ABSTRACT Poultry isolates of Campylobacter jejuni derived from a survey of meat processing batches were genotyped by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) of chromosomal DNA to establish the clonal relationships between single-colony isolates. In the majority of batches studied, one or two genotype patterns predominated. However, in one batch (batch A), 21 single-colony isolates gave 14 different PFGE genotypes. Polyphasic study of wine Lactobacillus strains: taxonomic implications

One hundred and seventy-eight lactobacilli isolated from wine were characterized by a polyphasic approach. Strains were phenotypically identified at genus and species level by classical tests including the analysis of cell morphology, homo/heterofermentative character, sugar fermentation patterns, growth at different temperatures and the optical nature of the isomer of lactic acid produced from glucose.
