Evolution of microstructure and related optical properties of ZnO grown by atomic layer deposition.
2013
A study of transmittance and photoluminescence spectra on the growth of oxygen-rich ultra-thin ZnO films prepared by atomic layer deposition is reported. The structural transition from an amorphous to a polycrystalline state is observed upon increasing the thickness. The unusual behavior of the energy gap with thickness reflected by optical properties is attributed to the improvement of the crystalline structure resulting from a decreasing concentration of point defects at the growth of grains. The spectra of UV and visible photoluminescence emissions correspond to transitions near the band-edge and defect-related transitions. Additional emissions were observed from band-tail states near th…

A comparative case study of Sony Computer Entertainment's crisis communication efforts during two PlayStation Network crises
2015
This study is about the crisis communication efforts of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) during two crises. Their PlayStation Network online service was hacked in 2011 and crashed by artificially high traffic in 2014. The purpose of the study is to examine the communication strategies of SCE and the development those strategies underwent between the two crises. This is done by comparing their crisis communication strategies with the Contingency Theory of strategic conflict management. This is done by a comparative case study methodology, utilising content analysis and gauging the impact of the crisis communication efforts through select media reactions. The study is significant in that it …

Mathematical and Coding Lessons Based on Creative Origami Activities
2019
AbstractThis paper considers how creativity and creative activities can be encouraged in regular mathematical classes by combining different teaching approaches and academic disciplines. We combined origami and paper folding with fractals and their mathematical properties as well as with coding in Scratch in order to facilitate learning mathematics and computer science. We conducted a case study experiment in a Serbian school with 15 high school students and applied different strategies for learning profound mathematical and coding concepts such as fractals dimension and recursion. The goal of the study was to employ creative activities and examine students’ activities during this process i…

Participation as a Pathway to Content Knowledge : Engaging All Students in Disciplinary Literacy Practices
2018
In this article, the authors assert that one important way to bring students to a level of caring about history is through participation. They discuss conceptual considerations and pedagogical possibilities of disciplinary literacy with a focus on transforming students into engaged participants in the practices of historical thinking and learning. The authors are concerned with ways disciplinary teachers can engage all students, including those who are struggling and reluctant, in the demanding practices of expert communities through active participation and by making connections to their personal lives. The article is based on international collaboration between language and literacy resea…
