Functional evidence for GABA as modulator of the contractility of the longitudinal muscle in mouse duodenum: Role of GABAA and GABAC receptors

2007

We investigated, in vitro, the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) on the spontaneous mechanical activity of the longitudinal smooth muscle in mouse duodenum. GABA induced an excitatory effect, consisting in an increase in the basal tone, which was antagonized by the GABA(A)-receptor antagonist, bicuculline, potentiated by (1,2,5,6-Tetrahydropyridin-4-yl)methylphosphinic acid hydrate (TPMPA), a GABA(C)-receptor antagonist and it was not affected by phaclofen, a GABA(B)-receptor antagonist. Muscimol, GABA(A) receptor agonist, induced a contractile effect markedly reduced by bicuculline, tetrodotoxin (TTX), hexamethonium and atropine. Cis-4-aminocrotonic acid (CACA), a specific GABA(C) …

Aromatic N-oxide templates open inclusion and dimeric capsular assemblies with methylresorcinarene

2015

C2-2-methylresorcinarene forms host–guest complexes with pyridine N-oxide and quinoline N-oxide. In solution the NMR studies support the 1 : 1 host–guest complexes while in the solid state, the single crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal dimeric capsule-like assemblies with 2 : 3 and 2 : 2 host–guest stoichiometry.

Orientation of the acidity probes benzene, acetonitrile and pyridine in SAPO-5 and GaAPO-5 molecular sieves: an FTIR microscopy study

1997

The adsorption and desorption behaviour of benzene, acetonitrile (CD3CN) and pyridine for large crystals of SAPO-5 and GaAPO-5 is studied using FTIR microscopy with polarised IR radiation. From the analysis of the polarised adsorption bands it is concluded that the adsorbates are ordered in the molecular sieves at 373 K. The orientation of molecules interacting with Bronsted or Lewis acid sites and of physisorbed molecules are discussed. Benzene adsorbed at Bronsted sites is oriented with the aromatic ring parallel to the crystallographic c-axis of the molecular sieve, whereas physisorbed benzene is oriented with the aromatic ring parallel to the crystallographic a,bplane. Acetonitrile can …

A Novel 1,4-Dihydropyridine Derivative Improves Spatial Learning and Memory and Modifies Brain Protein Expression in Wild Type and Transgenic APPSweD…

2015

Ca2+ blockers, particularly those capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB), have been suggested as a possible treatment or disease modifying agents for neurodegenerative disorders, e.g., Alzheimer's disease. The present study investigated the effects of a novel 4-(N-dodecyl) pyridinium group-containing 1,4-dihydropyridine derivative (AP-12) on cognition and synaptic protein expression in the brain. Treatment of AP-12 was investigated in wild type C57BL/6J mice and transgenic Alzheimer's disease model mice (Tg APPSweDI) using behavioral tests and immunohistochemistry, as well as mass spectrometry to assess the blood-brain barrier (BBB) penetration. The data demonstrated the ability …

Highly sensitive monoclonal antibody-based immunoassays for the analysis of fluopyram in food samples

2019

Monoclonal antibody-based techniques have become a useful analytical technology in the agro-food sector. Nowadays, residues of the recently registered fungicide fluopyram are increasingly being found in quality control programs. In the present study, novel chemical derivatives of this pesticide were prepared and specific and high-affinity monoclonal antibodies to fluopyram were raised for the first time. Moreover, immunoassays to fluopyram were developed in two alternative enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay formats, using homologous and heterologous assay conjugates, with limits of detection below 0.05 µg L−1. The optimized immunoassays were applied to the analysis of fluopyram in fortified …

A Bipyridine‐Palladium Derivative as General Pre‐Catalyst for Cross‐Coupling Reactions in Deep Eutectic Solvents

2019

A versatile and DES‐compatible bipyridine palladium complex has been developed as a general pre‐catalyst for different cross‐coupling reactions (Hiyama, Suzuki‐Miyaura, Heck‐Mizoroki and Sonogashira) in deep eutectic solvents. Hydrogen bond capacity of the ligand allows to keep the excellent level of results previously obtained in classical organic solvents. Palladium pre‐catalyst showed a high catalytic activity for many cross‐coupling reactions, demonstrating a great versatility and applicability. Also, this methodology employs sustainable solvents as a reaction medium and highlights the potential of DES as alternative solvents in organometallic catalysis. The catalyst and DES were easily…

Versatile Electrochemical C-H Amination via Zincke Intermediates.

2015

Simply by applying electricity, the amination reaction of a broad variety of arenes, heteroarenes, and benzylic substrates is achieved. Pyridine serves as the nitrogen source and the intermediate cationic species are well-protected from over-oxidation.

Evaluation of Antiradical Activity and Reducing Capacity of Synthesised Bispyridinium Dibromides Obtained by Quaternisation of 4-Pyridyl-1,4-dihydrop…

2015

New bispyridinium dibromides based on the 1,4-dihydropyridine (1,4-DHP) cycle were synthesised in the reaction between 4-pyridyl-1,4-DHP derivatives and propargyl bromide. It has been shown that variation of the substituent position on the pyridine as well as small changes in the electronic nature of the 1,4-DHP cycle as a result of the substituent nature at the 3 and 5 positions do not affect the course of the reaction and in all cases the corresponding bispyridinium dibromides 4a–e were formed. The antiradical activity, using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazine as a free radical scavenger, and the reducing capacity using phosphomolybdenum complexes have been evaluated for the newly synthesise…

Ruthenium-arene complexes bearing naphthyl-substituted 1,3-dioxoindan-2-carboxamides ligands for G-quadruplex DNA recognition.

2019

Quadruplex nucleic acids – DNA/RNA secondary structures formed in guanine rich sequences – proved to have key roles in the biology of cancers and, as such, in recent years they emerged as promising targets for small molecules. Many reports demonstrated that metal complexes can effectively stabilize quadruplex structures, promoting telomerase inhibition, downregulation of the expression of cancer-related genes and ultimately cancer cell death. Although extensively explored as anticancer agents, studies on the ability of ruthenium arene complexes to interact with quadruplex nucleic acids are surprisingly almost unknown. Herein, we report on the synthesis and characterization of four novel Ru(…
