State-feedback sampled-data control design for nonlinear systems via passive theory

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/230413 Open Access This paper investigates the problem of passive controller design for a class of nonlinear systems under variable sampling. The Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy modeling method is utilized to represent the nonlinear systems. Attention is focused on the design of passive controller for the T-S fuzzy systems via sampled-data control approach. Under the concept of very-strict passivity, a novel time-dependent Lyapunov functional is constructed to develop passive analysis criteria and passive controller synthesis conditions. A new …

Oscillatory Behavior of Second-Order Nonlinear Neutral Differential Equations

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2014/143614 Open Access We study oscillatory behavior of solutions to a class of second-order nonlinear neutral differential equations under the assumptions that allow applications to differential equations with delayed and advanced arguments. New theorems do not need several restrictive assumptions required in related results reported in the literature. Several examples are provided to show that the results obtained are sharp even for second-order ordinary differential equations and improve related contributions to the subject.

Asymptotic Behavior of Higher-Order Quasilinear Neutral Differential Equations

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2014/395368 Open Access We study asymptotic behavior of solutions to a class of higher-order quasilinear neutral differential equations under the assumptions that allow applications to even- and odd-order differential equations with delayed and advanced arguments, as well as to functional differential equations with more complex arguments that may, for instance, alternate indefinitely between delayed and advanced types. New theorems extend a number of results reported in the literature. Illustrative examples are presented.

Some new fixed point results in non-Archimedean fuzzy metric spaces

2013

In this paper, we introduce the notions of fuzzy $(\alpha,\beta,\varphi)$-contractive mapping, fuzzy $\alpha$-$\phi$-$\psi$-contractive mapping and fuzzy $\alpha$-$\beta$-contractive mapping and establish some results of fixed point for this class of mappings in the setting of non-Archimedean fuzzy metric spaces. The results presented in this paper generalize and extend some recent results in fuzzy metric spaces. Also, some examples are given to support the usability of our results.

Stochastic Stability Analysis for Markovian Jump Neutral Nonlinear Systems

2012

In this paper, the stability problem is studied for a class of Markovian jump neutral nonlinear systems with time-varying delay. By Lyapunov-Krasovskii function approach, a novel mean-square exponential stability criterion is derived for the situations that the system's transition rates are completely accessible, partially accessible and non-accessible, respectively. Moreover, the developed stability criterion is extended to the systems with different bounded sector nonlinear constraints. Finally, some numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Making nonlinear manifold learning models interpretable: The manifold grand tour

2015

Smooth nonlinear topographic maps of the data distribution to guide a Grand Tour visualisation.Prioritisation of data linear views that are most consistent with data structure in the maps.Useful visualisations that cannot be obtained by other more classical approaches. Dimensionality reduction is required to produce visualisations of high dimensional data. In this framework, one of the most straightforward approaches to visualising high dimensional data is based on reducing complexity and applying linear projections while tumbling the projection axes in a defined sequence which generates a Grand Tour of the data. We propose using smooth nonlinear topographic maps of the data distribution to…

Spring School on Language, Music, and Cognition: Organizing Events in Time

2018

The interdisciplinary spring school “Language, music, and cognition: Organizing events in time” was held from February 26 to March 2, 2018 at the Institute of Musicology of the University of Cologne. Language, speech, and music as events in time were explored from different perspectives including evolutionary biology, social cognition, developmental psychology, cognitive neuroscience of speech, language, and communication, as well as computational and biological approaches to language and music. There were 10 lectures, 4 workshops, and 1 student poster session.Overall, the spring school investigated language and music as neurocognitive systems and focused on a mechanistic approach exploring…

3D Sensor-Based Obstacle Detection Comparing Octrees and Point clouds Using CUDA

2012

This paper presents adaptable methods for achieving fast collision detection using the GPU and Nvidia CUDA together with Octrees. Earlier related work have focused on serial methods, while this paper presents a parallel solution which shows that there is a great increase in time if the number of operations is large. Two different models of the environment and the industrial robot are presented, the first is Octrees at different resolutions, the second is a point cloud representation. The relative merits of the two different world model representations are shown. In particular, the experimental results show the potential of adapting the resolution of the robot and environment models to the t…
