A simple algorithm for finding short sigma-definite representatives
2010
We describe a new algorithm which for each braid returns a quasi-geodesic sigma-definite word representative, defined as a braid word in which the generator sigma_i with maximal index i appears either only positively or only negatively.
HOMFLY-PT skein module of singular links in the three-sphere
2012
For a ring R, we denote by [Formula: see text] the free R-module spanned by the isotopy classes of singular links in đ3. Given two invertible elements x, t â R, the HOMFLY-PT skein module of singular links in đ3 (relative to the triple (R, t, x)) is the quotient of [Formula: see text] by local relations, called skein relations, that involve t and x. We compute the HOMFLY-PT skein module of singular links for any R such that (t-1 - t + x) and (t-1 - t - x) are invertible. In particular, we deduce the Conway skein module of singular links.
Compressed Drinfeld associators
2004
Drinfeld associator is a key tool in computing the Kontsevich integral of knots. A Drinfeld associator is a series in two non-commuting variables, satisfying highly complicated algebraic equations - hexagon and pentagon. The logarithm of a Drinfeld associator lives in the Lie algbera L generated by the symbols a,b,c modulo [a,b]=[b,c]=[c,a]. The main result is a description of compressed associators that satisfy the compressed pentagon and hexagon in the quotient L/[[L,L],[L,L]]. The key ingredient is an explicit form of Campbell-Baker-Hausdorff formula in the case when all commutators commute.
Birman's conjecture for singular braids on closed surfaces
2003
Let M be a closed oriented surface of genus gâĽ1, let Bn(M) be the braid group of M on n strings, and let SBn(M) be the corresponding singular braid monoid. Our purpose in this paper is to prove that the desingularization map Ρ : SBn(M)ââ¤[Bn(M)], introduced in the definition of the Vassiliev invariants (for braids on surfaces), is injective.
A cubic defining algebra for the Links-Gould polynomial
2012
We define a finite-dimensional cubic quotient of the group algebra of the braid group, endowed with a (essentially unique) Markov trace which affords the Links-Grould invariant of knots and links. We investigate several of its properties, and state several conjectures about its structure.
Riemannian metric of the averaged energy minimization problem in orbital transfer with low thrust
2007
Abstract This article deals with the optimal transfer of a satellite between Keplerian orbits using low propulsion and is based on preliminary results of Epenoy et al. (1997) where the optimal trajectories of the energy minimization problem are approximated using averaging techniques. The averaged Hamiltonian system is explicitly computed. It is related to a Riemannian problem whose distance is an approximation of the value function. The extremal curves are analyzed, proving that the system remains integrable in the coplanar case. It is also checked that the metric associated with coplanar transfers towards a circular orbit is flat. Smoothness of small Riemannian spheres ensures global optiâŚ
Conjugate and cut loci of a two-sphere of revolution with application to optimal control
2008
Abstract The objective of this article is to present a sharp result to determine when the cut locus for a class of metrics on a two-sphere of revolution is reduced to a single branch. This work is motivated by optimal control problems in space and quantum dynamics and gives global optimal results in orbital transfer and for Lindblad equations in quantum control.
Topological Hopf algebras, quantum groups and deformation quantization
2003
After a presentation of the context and a brief reminder of deformation quantization, we indicate how the introduction of natural topological vector space topologies on Hopf algebras associated with Poisson Lie groups, Lie bialgebras and their doubles explains their dualities and provides a comprehensive framework. Relations with deformation quantization and applications to the deformation quantization of symmetric spaces are described
Fractal Weyl law for open quantum chaotic maps
2014
We study the semiclassical quantization of Poincar\'e maps arising in scattering problems with fractal hyperbolic trapped sets. The main application is the proof of a fractal Weyl upper bound for the number of resonances/scattering poles in small domains near the real axis. This result encompasses the case of several convex (hard) obstacles satisfying a no-eclipse condition.
GW170814: A Three-Detector Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Black Hole Coalescence
2017
On August 14, 2017 at 10 30:43 UTC, the Advanced Virgo detector and the two Advanced LIGO detectors coherently observed a transient gravitational-wave signal produced by the coalescence of two stellar mass black holes, with a false-alarm rate of 1 in 27 000 years. The signal was observed with a three-detector network matched-filter signal-to-noise ratio of 18. The inferred masses of the initial black holes are 30.5-3.0+5.7M and 25.3-4.2+2.8M (at the 90% credible level). The luminosity distance of the source is 540-210+130 Mpc, corresponding to a redshift of z=0.11-0.04+0.03. A network of three detectors improves the sky localization of the source, reducing the area of the 90% credible regioâŚ
