P630 Inflammatory bowel disease in immigrants to Spain: results of the EIIMIGRA study from GETECCU (ENEIDA registry)

2021

Abstract Background Previous studies comparing inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) features between migrant and native patients have shown clinical phenotype differences. To date, no study has focused on IBD immigrants(MP) in Spain. The aim of this study was to explore the features of MP in Spain and to compare age of disease onset, IBD phenotype and therapeutic requirements with native-born IBD patients(NP). Methods This was an observational, multicentric and case-control study of the nationwide ENEIDA registry. We selected all IBD patients who were born outside of Spain and compared with a control cohort of NP. All included patients were diagnosed with IBD before 2015. Results A total of 13,5…

MR Imaging of Perianal Crohn Disease: The Role of Contrast-enhanced Sequences

2017

The MR imaging protocol described by the authors includes contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging with fat saturation in all patients except those with poor renal function. Horsthuis et al demonstrated in 2009 the usefulness of contrast-enhanced MR imaging for determining disease activity. Contrast agent administration is also required in case of suspicion of neoplastic tissue complicating fistulas. The joint European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation–European Society of Gastointestinal and Abdominal Radiology guidelines report that T2-weighted images and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images are included in the MR imaging protocol for the evaluation of perianal CD. However, as we have demonstr…

2019

Abstract Objectives To use the estimates from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2016 to describe patterns of suicide mortality globally, regionally, and for 195 countries and territories by age, sex, and Socio-demographic index, and to describe temporal trends between 1990 and 2016. Design Systematic analysis. Main outcome measures Crude and age standardised rates from suicide mortality and years of life lost were compared across regions and countries, and by age, sex, and Socio-demographic index (a composite measure of fertility, income, and education). Results The total number of deaths from suicide increased by 6.7% (95% uncertainty interval 0.4% to 15.6%) globally over the 27 year stud…

Acute neuromuscular and hormonal responses during contrast loading: Effect of 11 weeks of contrast training

2009

The purpose of this study was to assess (1) acute neuromuscular and endocrine responses during a contrast loading protocol and (2) how these acute responses are possibly influenced by 11 weeks of contrast training. Contrast loading tests consisting of 4 sets of 80% 1 RM back squat and 4 sets of squat jump (SJ) were performed before and after training. Bilateral isometric leg extension (LE) assessed the impact of loading on isometric variables pre-, mid-, and post-loading. Potentiated SJ performance was observed in set 2 (4.6%, P<0.05), before training only. Greater indications of fatigue were observed in SJ, isometric force, and vastus lateralis (VL) activation after training (P<0.05). Trai…

2021

Background Physical activity alleviates chronic stress. The latest research suggests a relationship between resilience and physical fitness. Beneficial adaptations of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, sympathetic nervous system, endocannabinoid system, and tryptophan pathway, which are induced by an active lifestyle, are considered to be conducive to resilience. However, detailed knowledge on the molecular link between the effects of acute and chronic physical exercise and improved resilience to stress in humans is missing. Moreover, the relationship between innate and acquired aerobic capacity and resilience is poorly understood. Objective The aim of this study is to implement a hu…

Public Health physicians and empathy: are we really emphatic? The Jefferson Scale applied to Italian resident doctors in Public Health.

2013

Large gaps in care quality resulting from ineffective communication between health providers, patients, and other health care organizations have been documented. Research suggests that effective, empathic communication positively influences health outcomes. Many studies focused on the assessment of clinicians empathy, while there is still a lack of evidence on the role and level of empathy for public health medical doctors, especially during their postgraduate education. The aim of this study was to assess empathy level of public health residents, and to investigate differences in empathy scores using a validated questionnaire. The Italian version of the Jefferson scale of Physician Empathy …

Oral health knowledge in relation to educational level in an adult population in Spain.

2019

Background To analyze the relationship between oral health knowledge and educational level among an adult population in Spain, and between oral health knowledge and subjects' oral hygiene practices, dietary habits, toxic habits, and oral quality of life. Material and methods This transversal study used the Comprehensive Measure of Oral Health Knowledge (CMOHK) questionnaire to evaluate subjects' knowledge and understanding of oral health, and the World Health Organization oral health questionnaire for adults to evaluate dietary, oral hygiene, toxic habits, and oral quality of life. Participants (n=400) gave their informed consent and data release permission before taking part in the study, …

Consumer Satisfaction with Outpatient Mental Health Care: Impact of an Organizational Change in Mental Health Center Function from Hospital District …

1996

In Finland the administrative responsibility for outpatient psychiatric care has in part been reorganized from specialized psychiatric treatment organizations to health centers. This change has been encouraged by economic pressures, but data about its impact on the quality of treatment and patient satisfaction are limited. We carried out a follow-up study by using the UKU Consumer Satisfaction Rating Scale (UKU-CONSAT) and qualitative interviews to estimate consumer satisfaction with the psychiatric outpatient care just before and 1 year after such a change. The results suggest that dissatisfaction may emerge if too little attention is paid to the longevity of the treatment relationships an…
