Automated determination of reboxetine by high-performance liquid chromatography with column-switching and ultraviolet detection.

2000

A fully automated method including column-switching and isocratic high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed for quantitative analysis of the new antidepressant reboxetine, a noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor. After serum injection into the HPLC system and on-line sample clean-up on a silica C8 (10x4.0 mm I.D.) clean-up column with an eluent consisting of 2.5% acetonitrile in deionized water, the chromatographic separation was performed on an analytical column (Lichrospher CN; 250x4.6 mm I.D.) with an eluent of acetonitrile-aqueous potassium phosphate buffer (0.008 M, pH 6.4) (50:50). The UV detector was set at 273 or 226 nm. The limit of quantification was about 15 ng/ml at…

Quality control of pharmaceuticals containing clenbuterol by thermal lens spectrometry.

1996

An ultrasensitive absorptiometric procedure for the determination of clenbuterol in pharmaceutical preparations was developed. Clenbuterol was diazotized with nitrite and coupled with 1-(naphthyl)ethylenediamine, and the absorbance of the azo dye formed was measured by both spectrophotometry and ultrasensitive thermal lens spectrometry (TLS). The TLS limit of detection was 1.5 ppb, 14-fold lower than with a Hewlett-Packard diode array spectrophotometer. Thus, the TLS procedure can be advantageously applied to quality control of clenbuterol at the individual dose level and in small samples. Repeatability as relative standard deviation was 1.5% (50 ppb, n = 6).

Selective solid-phase extraction of organophosphorus pesticides and their oxon-derivatives from water samples using molecularly imprinted polymer fol…

2020

Abstract A molecularly imprinted polymer was synthesized and characterized to be used as solid-phase extraction sorbent for simultaneous chlorpyrifos and diazinon and their oxon derivatives. Several imprinted polymers were prepared and evaluated in a retention study of these analytes compared with a non-printed polymer. Several parameters affecting the extraction of imprinted polymer such as washing solvent, composition and volume of the eluting solvent and sample volume, were also investigated. Under the optimum conditions, the developed method provided satisfactory limits of detection ranging between 0.07 µg L−1 to 0.12 µg L−1 and the material showed an excellent reusability (> 50 reuses)…

Determination of sulphonamides in human urine by azo dye precolumn derivatization and micellar liquid chromatography

1995

Abstract A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the determination of sulphonamides in urine is reported. The drugs (sulphadiazine, sulphaguanidine, sulphamethizole, sulphamethoxazole, and sulphathiazole) were diazotized with nitrite and coupled with N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride in a sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) micellar medium. Separation of the sulphonamide azo dyes was performed on a C18 column with a 0.05 M SDS-2.4% pentanol mobile phase, which permitted the direct injection of the urine samples. The limits of detection were in the 0.1–0.3 μg/ml range.

Comparison of different sorbents for on-line liquid-solid extraction followed by high-performance liquid chromatographic determination of nitrogen-co…

1998

Abstract LiChrolut EN [poly(styrene-divinylbenzene), PSDVB], Carbograph (graphitized carbon black, GCB), Isolute CN (cyanopropylsilica), Isolute C 2 (ethylsilica), and LiChrospher RP18 (octadecylsilica) were studied for on-line solid-phase extraction of twelve nitrogen containing pesticides from water. Determination (UV 210 nm) was performed with a Spherisorb C 8 analytical column and an acetonitrile-water gradient. The mean recoveries from 50 ml ranged from 83% for RP18 to 44% for GCB, and decreased in the following order: RP18, CN, LiChrolut EN, C 2 , and GCB. GCB showed poor recoveries due to incomplete desorption with the acetonitrile-water gradient used, and memory effects were detecte…

Bio-metal-organic frameworks for molecular recognition and sorbent extraction of hydrophilic vitamins followed by their determination using HPLC-UV

2020

A bio-metal-organic framework (bio-MOF) derived from the amino acid L-serine has been prepared in bulk form and evaluated as sorbent for the molecular recognition and extraction of B-vitamins. The functional pores of bio-MOF exhibit high amounts of hydroxyl groups jointly directing other supramolecular host-guest interactions thus providing the recognition of B-vitamins in fruit juices and energy drinks. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal the specific B-vitamin binding sites and the existence of multiple hydrogen bonds between these target molecules and the framework. It offered unique snapshots to accomplish an efficient capture of these solutes in complex aqueous matrices. Fo…

Resolution of overlapped non-absorbing and absorbing solutes using either an absorption null-balance detection window or multivariate deconvolution a…

2004

Abstract Non-absorbing alkyl ether sulfates (AES) can be separated using anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid (AQCA) as a probe; however, absorbing alkyl benzene sulfonates (ABS), if present, interfere indirect detection of most AES oligomers. Overcoming of this interference, as well as the simultaneous characterisation and evaluation of AES, fatty acids and ABS, was accomplished by using a diode-array detector and the procedures here discussed. First, it was shown that ABS can be made undetectable by using a 9 nm wide and 227 nm centred charge-absorptivity null-balance detection window (NBDW), where its contribution to the absorbance cancels the dilution effects that its presence induces on the…

Epistemic Relativity: An Experimental Approach to Physics

2019

The recent concept of relativistic positioning system (RPS) has opened the possibility of making Relativity the general standard frame in which to state any physical problem, theoretical or experimental. Because the velocity of propagation of the information is finite, epistemic relativity proposes to integrate the physicist as a truly component of every physical problem, taking into account explicitly what information, when and where, the physicist is able to know. This leads naturally to the concept of relativistic stereometric system (RSS), allowing to measure the intrinsic properties of physical systems. Together, RPSs and RSSs complete the notion of laboratory in general relativity, al…

A Dual-Process Model Applied to Two Health-Promoting Nutrition Behaviours

2021

We tested a dual process model incorporating constructs that reflect both performing the target behaviour (behaviour directed habit) and habits that run counter to the target behaviour (opposing behaviour habit) in accounting for variance in two health behaviours: eating the recommended serves of fruits and vegetables a day and restricting sugar-sweetened beverage consumption. A prospective correlational design with two waves of data collection separated by one week was adopted. Participants (N = 606) comprising middle school students (n = 266) and university students (n = 340) completed an initial survey comprising self-report measures of past behaviour, intention, and habit to perform the…
