Intravenous Regional Anesthesia
1988
Intravenous regional anesthesia was first described by Bier in 1908. The technique fell into disuse until 1963, when Holmes revived the technique by substituting lidocaine for procaine (see Sect. V. D, “Choice and Dosage of Agents”).
A comparison of the impacts of introduced signal crayfish and native noble crayfish in boreal lake ecosystems

Dynamics of boson stars and fermion-boson stars: a numerical-relativity panorama
2022
A branch-and-cut algorithm for the Team Orienteering Problem
2017
The Team Orienteering Problem aims at maximizing the total amount of profit collected by a fleet of vehicles while not exceeding a predefined travel time limit on each vehicle. In the last years, several exact methods based on different mathematical formulations were proposed. In this paper, we present a new two-index formulation with a polynomial number of variables and constraints. This compact formulation, reinforced by connectivity constraints, was solved by means of a branch-and-cut algorithm. The total number of instances solved to optimality is 327 of 387 benchmark instances, 26 more than any previous method. Moreover, 24 not previously solved instances were closed to optimality.
Izdegšanas saistība ar darba-ģimenes konfliktu militārpersonām
2019
(Maslach, Jackson, & Leiter, 1996). Adaptācija latviešu valodā D.Caune, 2004; 2. Izdegšanas klīnisko apakštipu aptauja (Marin, Campayo, 2010). Adaptācija latviešu valodā Ābeltiņa, Rašče…
Internet and computer game addiction - a review of current neuroscientific research
2011
IntroductionA significant part computer game players and internet users show clinical features of abuse and addiction (loss of control, withdrawal symptoms, tolerance, continuation of game play even with increasing negative consequence in social and academic life). Similar mechanisms are suggested to underlie the pathogenesis and maintenance of internet and computer game addiction and substance-related addictions.ObjectivesNeuroscientific research on internet and computer game addiction is sparse, yet emerging. To review previous studies is the objective of the present project.AimsWe aim to identify common findings regarding the neurophysiological processes underlying internet and computer …
Intravenous Use of Methadone: Efficacy and Safety
2013
Parenteral methadone could be helpful in specific conditions, particularly in unstable conditions of when the oral route is unavailable. Intravenous methadone should be the preferred parenteral route, due to concerns about the local toxicity of subcutaneous route. This chapter assesses aspects regarding the pharmacokinetic issues, the clinical use, the problems associated with the use of intravenous methadone for chronic pain, as well as the perioperative use of intravenous methadone.
Powered by public relations? Mutual perceptions of PR practitioners’ bases of power over journalism
2017
Public relations practitioners depend on journalists to report information, and journalists count on public relations practitioners to provide information. This mutual dependence gives the two parties a degree of power over each other that can be wielded if certain resources are available. However, there are many unanswered questions about how public relations exerts power over journalists and how these influence attempts may affect news coverage. We differentiate six bases of power that public relations practitioners may use to influence journalists. To test the use of these bases of power, we conducted a quantitative survey among German journalists and public relations practitioners. Our…
Novel anti-obesity drugs and plasma lipids
2014
Obesity is a health problem of global, epidemic proportions and a major risk factor for chronic diseases resulting in accelerated morbidity and mortality. Dyslipidemia with a predominance of small dense LDL, impaired functionality of HDL particles, and increased serum levels of remnant particles due to impaired clearance of triglyceriderich lipoproteins significantly heightens cardiovascular events in obese subjects. Pharmacotherapy in combination with lifestyle modification is the primary approach to reduce obesity-related cardiovascular risk. Although there are several potential anti-obesity drugs, orlistat is the only agent that remains available in the market. Lorcaserin and Qsymia ® , …
Relational content of travel and tourism websites
2006
Developments in information technologies are having a far-reaching impact on the travel and tourism industry. This paper analyses the use of the internet as a relational tool for travel and tourism companies providing air travel and rent-a-car services. The empirical research results show the role the internet plays in increasing sales and how companies use different relational tools to gain consumer trust and commitment.
