Determination of water-soluble vitamins in energy and sport drinks by micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography

Abstract A method for the determination of water-soluble vitamins in several energy and sport drinks by micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) has been developed in this work. The separation of vitamins was studied in terms of background electrolyte composition (borate content, pH, surfactant type and content) and in other MEKC parameters. A study of the possible compounds found in the vitamin-enriched drinks that could interfere in vitamin determination was also performed, and a modified procedure with enhanced resolution was developed. Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is largely used in Mediterranean diet, and it is also worldwide apprised not only for its organoleptic properties but also for its healthy effects mainly attributed to the presence of several naturally occurring phenolic and polyphenolic compounds (bio-phenols). Spectrophotometric Determination of Hydralazine with 2-Hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde in Pharmaceuticals

Abstract A new extraction-spectrophotometric method for the determination of hydralazine, based on its reaction with 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde at 25 °C, is described. The calibration curve was linear between 0.4 and 6 mg/mL of hydralazine. The molar absorbtivity of the product at 408 nm is 40 900 L · mol − 1 · cm − 1 . The method described was applied to the analysis of hydralazine in pharmaceutical preparations containing reserpine, hydrochlorothiazide, bendrofluorthiazine, propranolol, and other substances. The agreement with the U.S.P. XXI method was satisfactory for tablets and injections, but not for pellets.

Keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH), I: Reassociation from Immucothel® followed by separation of KLH1 and KLH2

Abstract Studies of keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) normally require purification of functional complexes directly from living animals. An alternative procedure is described wherein a commercial preparation of KLH which is fully dissociated into its subunits (Immucothel®, biosyn Arzneimittel GmbH) is reassociated in the presence of a high concentration of calcium and magnesium. The reassociation products, when observed by electron microscopy, consist of didecamers, multidecamers and flexible tubules of varying length. Colorimetric method for the determination of vanadium with tannic acid in water and oils

A new spectrophotometric method was developed to determine vanadium using tannic acid as a complexing reagent to form a coloured reaction product which can easily be extracted by 1-pentanol in the presence of cetylpyridinium. The developed method can successfully be applied to determine trace levels of 10 ng/ml of vanadium in natural waters without any preconcentration step. It can also determine less than 1 mg/kg of vanadium in edible oils and petroleum products.

A comparison of various calibration techniques applied to the ninhydrin-cefoxitin determination

Abstract This report deals with spectrophotometric determination of cefoxitin from intact antibiotics or from its acid induced degradation product by means of their reaction with ninhydrin in a strong sulphuric acid medium. Abstract The flow-injection spectrophotometric determination of nalidixic (I) and pipemidic (II) acids were carried out by reaction with Fe(III) ions entrapped in a polymeric material and filling a packed-bed reactor; the released Fe(III) complexed with the quinolone is monitored at 426 nm. The method worked with a high reproducibility, even when using different reactors, days and solutions. In the present study, the authors investigated the accumulation of chromium in muscle, hepatopancreas, antennal glands, and gills of Procambarus clarkii (Girard) from Lake Albufera following Cr(VI)-exposure. Chemical warfare (CW) agents are toxic chemicals that have been used in several terrorist attacks in recent years.
