Spazio e lingua nella 'costruzione' greca dell'identità etnica. Alcune osservazioni a partire da Erodoto
2018
The paper aims to offer an account of some representative opinions of ancient Greeks about the role of the space, conceived in its geographical/environmental value, in which a certain population lives, as well as of the language spoken by a population, in order to build historically the concept of Greek nation (to Hellenikón). The different positions expressed on these matters by Herodotus, Thucydides, Strabon and Pausanias are discussed, and the examination mostly concernes the ethnic and historical-linguistic aspects of the representation of the Dorians and Ionians.
Sex and sexual ornamentation associated with survival of the cyprinid fish, Rutilus rutilus, under disease stress
2013
By conveying information of disease resistance, sexual signals may be used as cues for adaptive mate choice. Here we report observations on survival of laboratory-maintained, wild-collected, sexually mature, ready-to-spawn cyprinid fish, Rutilus rutilus (roach), under accidental epidemic attributed to Flavobacterium psychrophilum, diagnosed using species-specific PCR. The fish were maintained in a single tank. During the 27 days observation period, both the proportion of fish surviving the infection as well as the length-adjusted mean survival time of the fish that died was the highest among the high-ornamented males with large breeding tubercles, intermediary among the low-ornamented males…
per.marg.i (percorsi, margini, intersezioni)
2009
2020
The contraction of relational public space in favor of private one was one of the consequences due to the Covid-19 containment, which generated deep changes on lifestyles. This situation leads not only to reformulate public policies on housing and services provision, but also to reconsider the territorial rebalancing between urban systems densely inhabited and internal areas of the country in demographic decline as a precondition of prevention contagion. Particularly, attention will be paid to a southern internal area where population density is low, high-unused housing stock is available and environmental standards are higher. The objective is to build a methodological proposal for support…
Effatha - mowa i mówienie w księgach Starego i Nowego Testamentu
2016

Interspecific information on predation risk affects nest site choice in a passerine bird
2018
Abstract Background Breeding site choice constitutes an important part of the species niche. Nest predation affects breeding site choice, and has been suggested to drive niche segregation and local coexistence of species. Interspecific social information use may, in turn, result in copying or rejection of heterospecific niche characteristics and thus affect realized niche overlap between species. We tested experimentally whether a migratory bird, the pied flycatcher Ficedula hypoleuca, collects information about nest predation risk from indirect cues of predators visiting nests of heterospecific birds. Furthermore, we investigated whether the migratory birds can associate such information w…
Intelligent solutions for real-life data-driven applications
2017
The subject of this thesis belongs to the topic of machine learning or, specifically, to the development of advanced methods for regression analysis, clustering, and anomaly detection. Industry is constantly seeking improved production practices and minimized production time and costs. In connection to this, several industrial case studies are presented in which mathematical models for predicting paper quality were proposed. The most important variables for the prediction models are selected based on information-theoretic measures and regression trees approach. The rest of the original papers are devoted to unsupervised machine learning. The main focus is developing advanced spectral cluster…
Pd2Au36(SR)(24) cluster: structure studies
2015
The location of the Pd atoms in Pd2Au36(SC2H4Ph)(24), is studied both experimentally and theoretically. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicates oxidized Pd atoms. Palladium K-edge extended X-ray absorption fine-structure (EXAFS) data clearly show Pd-S bonds, which is supported by far infrared spectroscopy and by comparing theoretical EXAFS spectra in R space and circular dichroism spectra of the staple, surface and core doped structures with experimental spectra.
A microsimulation calibration methodology based on speed-density relationships for freeways
2014
This paper describes the calibration methodology based on speed-density relationships in the microsimulation calibration process, stated that they represent the traffic flow phenomenon in a wide range of operational conditions and well summarize all the information that may be collected on field (or following a run of the microsimulation model) on two of the three key variables of traffic flow. The matching of speed-density relationships from field and simulation was evaluated using statistical analysis as technique of pattern recognition. A test freeway segment under uncongested traffic conditions was selected as case study; based on traffic data observed at A22 Brenner Freeway, Italy, sta…
