African countries' political arena is witnessing major changes due to the involvement of new political actors in the public policy making process (donors, political parties, civil society). In the past, the formulation of policies was a reflection of the central authority's will. Nowadays, governments are confronted with more resistance when adopting reforms. This paper laborates a model that describes the policy process in African countries and shows how new actors can influence the designing of the reform to their advantage. Excess consumption of added dietary sugars is related to multiple metabolic problems and adverse health conditions. Identifying the modifiable social cognitive and motivational constructs that predict sugar consumption is important to inform behavioral interventions aimed at reducing sugar intake. In questo lavoro si discute di una particolare “collezione” di corpi di ecclesiastici, mummifcati ed esposti in un comune montano madonita della Sicilia, Gangi. I corpi, principalmente risalenti al XIX secolo, mummifcati per colatura come nella tradizione del tempo e vestiti degli abiti talari, sono esposti nel piano sottostante della Chiesa Madre, in quella che nella tradizione è detta la “fossa dei parrini” (fossa dei preti). Ray optics behavior of flux avalanche propagation in superconducting films

Experimental evidence of wave properties of dendritic flux avalanches in superconducting films is reported. Using magneto-optical imaging the propagation of dendrites across boundaries between a bare NbN film and areas coated by a Cu layer was visualized, and it was found that the propagation is refracted in full quantitative agreement with Snell's law. For the studied film of 170 nm thickness and a $0.9\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{m}$ thick metal layer, the refractive index was close to $n=1.4$. Global analysis of the pMSSM in light of the Fermi GeV excess: prospects for the LHC Run-II and astroparticle experiments

We present a new global fit of the 19-dimensional phenomenological Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (pMSSM-19) that comply with all the latest experimental results from dark matter indirect, direct and accelerator dark matter searches. We show that the model provides a satisfactory explanation of the excess of gamma-rays from the Galactic centre observed by the Fermi~Large Area Telescope, assuming that it is produced by the annihilation of neutralinos in the Milky Way halo. We identify two regions that pass all the constraints: the first corresponds to neutralinos with a mass ~80-100 GeV annihilating into WW with a branching ratio of 95% ; the second to heavier neutralinos, with mass ~…
Engineered surface waves in hyperbolic metamaterials

We analyzed surface-wave propagation that takes place at the boundary between a semi-infinite dielectric and a multilayered metamaterial, the latter with indefinite permittivity and cut normally to the layers. Known hyperbolization of the dispersion curve is discussed within distinct spectral regimes, including the role of the surrounding material. Hybridization of surface waves enable tighter confinement near the interface in comparison with pure-TM surface-plasmon polaritons.
