AnABlast: Re-searching for Protein-Coding Sequences in Genomic Regions

AnABlast is a computational tool that highlights protein-coding regions within intergenic and intronic DNA sequences which escape detection by standard gene prediction algorithms. DNA sequences with small protein-coding genes or exons, complex intron-containing genes, or degenerated DNA fragments are efficiently targeted by AnABlast. Furthermore, this algorithm is particularly useful in detecting protein-coding sequences with nonsignificant homologs to sequences in databases. AnABlast can be executed online at http://www.bioinfocabd.upo.es/anablast/ .

In this study, beryllium tiles from Joint European Torus (JET) vacuum vessel wall were analysed and compared regarding their position in the vacuum vessel and differences in the exploitation conditions during two campaigns of ITER-Like-Wall (ILW) in 2011-2012 (ILW1) and 2013-2014 (ILW2) Tritium content in beryllium samples were assessed. Selenium bio-enrichment of Mediterranean fruit juices through lactic acid fermentation.

Abstract This work was carried out to elaborate selenium (Se) bio-enriched fermented Mediterranean fruit juices. To this purpose, pomegranate and table red grape juices were added with sodium selenite (Na2SeO3) and fermented by Levilactobacillus brevis CRL 2051 and Fructobacillus tropaeoli CRL 2034 individually or combined. To better evaluate the effect of selenite addition and starter strain inoculums on the total bacterial community of the fruit juices, fermentation trials were performed with raw and pasteurized fruit juices. Mycotoxins: Occurrence and Determination

Mycotoxins are toxic compounds produced by different types of fungi, belonging mainly to the Aspergillus , Penicillium , and Fusarium genera. This chapter presents a review of mycotoxins’ occurrence in food, and analytical methods proposed for their determination. Recent developments in sample preparation and chromatographic approaches for mycotoxins’ identification and quantification are highlighted. Current data on the occurrence of mycotoxins are also summarized. The chapter provides insight into the advances and progress in recent years and identifies remaining challenges.
