Combining critical perspectivation and personal account, I hope to offer a retrospective on my experience with the thought of Antonio Candido and a contribution to what we could consider his legacy. First I talk about my translation of a selection of his essays to German for an anthology published in 2005, about the translator’s readings and reflections, which serve as a starting point for rethinking some fundamental issues of Candido’s thought, such as the critical task of teaching and studying literature, also the question of literature’s social (ir)relevance in our days, as analyzed in the famous essay “O direito a literatura” (“The right to literature”, 1988).
Live free or die motionless : Walking the migrant path from Italy to France

This essay and the photographs examine visual traces of irregular mobility in the border landscape between Italy and France. The ruined buildings and objects witness decades of movement of undocumented people on this old migrant path across the mountains. By taking the theoretical concept of multidirectional memory (Rothberg 2009) the essay argues that the Path of Hope can be thought of as a memory site through which the issues of migration in contemporary Europe can be seen in a more sustainable light. Inhibition of DNA synthesis in chick embryo retinas, in vitro, by a factor from fetal bovine serum

Fetal bovine serum inhibited deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis in chick embryo retina explants. The inhibitory activity was precipitated from fetal bovine serum by 45% saturated ammonium sulfate and isolated by means of Sephadex G-100 and Bio-Gel P-60 columns as a peak with an apparent molecular weight of 7000 Da. DNA-inhibiting activity was heat- and acid-stable and was destroyed by dithiothreitol and alkaline treatment. The purified factor inhibited similarly both DNA synthesis and thymidine kinase activity; 50% inhibitory effect was found with 160 ng, 17 h after the addition into the incubation medium.

Darba mērķis ir izveidot vairākus neironu tīklus balstoties uz apskatītajām arhitektūrām, tādā veidā izveidojot darbojošos neironu tīklu, kas kalpotu kā instruments fiziskas personas kredītreitinga noteikšanai. Neirona tīkla mērķis ir klasificēt fiziskas personas aizdevumu pieprasījumu apstiprinošā vai noraidošā grupā atkarībā no ievades datiem.
