A concept that has emerged in recent years is the use of micronutrients as therapeutic agents known for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cardio-protective or anticarcinogenic proprieties. International audience; Background: Inborn enzyme defects of mitochondrial fatty acid beta-oxidation (FAO) form a large group of genetic disorders associated to variable clinical presentations ranging from life-threatening pediatric manifestations up to milder late onset phenotypes, including myopathy. Dual mode of action of grape cane extracts against Botrytis cinerea

International audience; Crude extracts of Vitis vinifera canes represent a natural source of stilbene compounds with well characterized antifungals properties. In our trials, exogenous application of a stilbene extract (SE) obtained from grape canes on grapevine leaves reduces the necrotic lesions caused by Botrytis cinerea. The SE showed to possess a direct antifungal activity by inhibiting the mycelium growth. The activation of some grapevine defense mechanism was also investigated. Green and Quick Extraction of Stable Biophenol-Rich Red Extracts from Grape Processing Waste

The extraction of grape processing waste (wine pomace) via microwave-hydrodiffusion and gravity (MHG) from three different cultivars grown in Sicily (Syrah, Perricone and Nero d’Avola) rapidly affords aqueous extracts highly concentrated in valued biophenols including flavonoids, anthocyanins and phenolic acids. The method does not employ organic solvent, acid or base and does not require grinding or freeze drying of the wine pomace nor separation of the grape skins from seeds and stem. Numerous studies have reported interesting properties of trans-resveratrol, a phytoalexin, as a preventive agent of several important pathologies: vascular diseases, cancers, viral infections, and neurodegenerative processes. Biological activity of resveratrol, a stilbenic compound from grapevines, against Botrytis cinerea, the causal agent for gray mold

The biological activity of resveratrol, a stilbenic compound synthesized by grapevines in response to various stresses, was reevaluated against Botrytis cinerea using a novel in vitro system that enabled direct observation of the fungus with an inverted microscope. We determined that 90 μg resveratrol/ml reduced germination of B. cinerea conidia by ca. 50%. Moreover, resveratrol was shown to significantly reduce mycelial growth of B. cinerea at concentrations ranging from 60 to 140 μg/ml. Degradation of stilbene-type phytoalexins in relation to the pathogenicity of Botrytis cinerea to grapevines

The ability of eight isolates of Botrytis cinerea to degrade the stilbene phytoalexins, resveratrol and pterostilbene, was compared with their pathogenicity to grapevines. All strains which degraded resveratrol and pterostilbene were highly or moderately pathogenic to in vitro cultures of grapevines (Vitis rupestris) after inoculation with agar disks containing mycelium, while those which were unable to degrade phytoalexins were non-pathogenic.
