Le violazioni degli obblighi alimentari
2011
The author criticizes the reasoning of the Court which denies the pr…
Degradation study of XVIII century graffiti on the walls of Chiaramonte Palace (Palermo, Italy)
2010
A systematic investigation of the original materials and the degradation phenomena induced by soluble salts on the wall matrix and on the graffiti of the Inquisition jails of Chiaramonte Palace in Palermo (Italy) was carried out. Built in the XIV century, Chiaramonte Palace was used as Inquisition court during the XV–XVI centuries. The ancient graffiti, recently discovered, represent a unique historical witness of the prisoners that lived during that terrible period. In order to study the nature, the amount and the distribution of the salts in the masonry, stone materials sampled at different depth from the wall matrix and saline efflorescences were analysed. Different physical techniques w…
α,β-Dehydroamino acids in naturally occurring peptides
2014
α,β-Dehydroamino acids are naturally occurring non-coded amino acids, found primarily in peptides. The review focuses on the type of α,β-dehydroamino acids, the structure of dehydropeptides, the source of their origin and bioactivity. Dehydropeptides are isolated primarily from bacteria and less often from fungi, marine invertebrates or even higher plants. They reveal mainly antibiotic, antifungal, antitumour, and phytotoxic activity. More than 60 different structures were classified, which often cover broad families of peptides. 37 different structural units containing the α,β-dehydroamino acid residues were shown including various side chains, Z and E isomers, and main modifications: meth…
DFT analysis of titanium complexes with oxygen-containing bidentate ligands
2003
Strength of the TiO co-ordinate bond in several titanium complexes with bidentate ligands has been investigated by means of DFT. Mutual interaction of particular donors and their influence on Lewis acidity of the central atom have also been studied. The energy of ligand binding ranges from −19 to −454 kJ/mol, depending on the kind of donors. Calculations confirm that a strong donor, alkoxide anion, co-ordinatively saturates the titanium and makes binding of new ligands less exoenergetic. On the contrary, two oxygen atoms of similar donor number do not have much influence on each other. Strength of the TiO bonds in titanium complexes with certain oxygen-containing bidentate ligands has bee…
Robust image analysis methods for the detection and the characterization of compact objects : application to biology
2019
In the field of microbiology, many experiments are based on a fine observation of microorganisms. Because of their interest in the development of modern agri-food processes, it is important to study their development and survival rate under specific environmental conditions such as osmotic or thermal stress. Microscopic imaging is one of the most used tools for observing microorganisms. The manual interpretation of acquired images raises problems of subjectivity, cost and reproducibility. This thesis proposes the development of standardized image analysis tools allowing the interpretation of images at two scales:- At the scale of the observation slide: the use of specific counting slides (M…
Towards a tanslatological study of multilinguism : translating the insertion of dialect within contemporary Italian narrative into French
2015
This PhD thesis examines Italian contemporary literary works (novels and short stories) in which dialect is used as a linguistic variety in combination with the national Italian idiom. The analysis is conducted through the works of four Italian writers, in which multilingualism is particularly significant: Andrea Camilleri, Salvatore Niffoi, Laura Pariani and Andrej Longo. Taking into account the complex linguistic situation of Italy, the thesis focuses on the translation of these works characterized by the co-existence of two different linguistic systems. Through an examination of the colourful mixture of linguistic varieties and the function of dialect in these contemporary texts, the the…
High resolution x-ray investigation of periodically poled lithium tantalate crystals with short periodicity
2009
Domain engineering technology in lithium tantalate is a well studied approach for nonlinear optical applications. However, for several cases of interest, the realization of short period structures (< 2 m) is required, which make their characterization difficult with standard techniques. In this work, we show that high resolution x-ray diffraction is a convenient approach for the characterization of such structures, allowing us to obtain in a nondestructive fashion information such as the average domain period, the domain wall inclination, and the overall structure quality.
