Abstract The Balearic Islands, off the east coast of Spain, have provided a focus of interest in investigations of the earliest colonization of the Mediterranean islands, because of the relatively late date of their oldest sites. Mallorca was visited in the fifth millennium BC and inhabited by the third, and Menorca was colonized during the closing centuries of the third millennium; this therefore makes Ibiza and Formentera special cases of isolation, since they were evidently not occupied until about 2000 BC and moreover were essentially deserted between roughly the thirteenth and seventh centuries BC. The presence and significance of individual and collec- tive burials in Final Neolithic/Chalcolithic societies in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula provides new evi- dence for the debate concerning the emergence of social inequalities in this region. The bioarchaeological and forensic approach is increasingly applied in the study of funerary contexts in archaeology. Here, we present a case of an atypical medieval burial recently discovered in Piazza Armerina (Sicily), in which the integrated use of traditional bioarchaeological and forensic anthropology methods was crucial. The skeleton was lying in a prone position and was characterised by a peculiar injury pattern. We recorded six clear stab wound marks on the posterior surface of the sternum. Des animaux vivants ont pu sejourner de maniere temporaire ou permanente dans certaines des enceintes qui parsement la Gaule au deuxieme Âge du Fer. Mais ils ont pu egalement y etre mis mort, manges ou abandonnes a la decomposition. La diversite des fonctions qu'ont pu remplir les enclos vis-a-vis de l'elevage et de l'usage des animaux est grande. Notre propos est d'essayer de voir dans quelle mesure il est possible de les restituer, et quels indices peuvent nous aider dans cette demarche.

The study of the prehistory of Ibiza and Formentera, the two small islands that form the Pityussae sub-group within the Balearic archipelago, began a few years ago as a consequence of the discovery and excavation of the megalithic chamber tomb of a Ca Na Costa on Formentera. Before then, prehistorians were still in doubt as to whether these islands had been occupied before the Phoenician colonisation. Die römische Fundstelle Oedenburg (Biesheim-Kunheim, Haut-Rhin, France) wird seit 1998 von einem international Team ausgegraben (Ecole pratique des hautes études, Paris, Universität Freiburg im Breisgau, Deutschland, Universität Basel, Schweiz). Gegenüber dem keltischen Oppidum von Breisach, nahe am heutigen Rhein gelegen, war die Siedlung in einer deutlich anderen Landschaft angelegt worden, die damals von verschiedenen Flussarmen durchzogen war. L’architettura salentina del XVI secolo offre ricchezza e profondità di riferimenti ma anche ostacoli posti contestualmente da una documentazione incompleta e priva di riscontri sicuri. Di questa labilità di assunti è intrisa la vicenda della personalità che viene considerata risolutiva, quella più nota per la storiografia architettonica: Gabriele Licciardo. Questo studio parte da una ricostruzione plausibile della biografia del maestro alla luce delle poche notizie esistenti e dell’architettura costruita.
