Centenarians as a model to discover genetic and epigenetic signatures of healthy ageing.
2018
Abstract Centenarians are a model of successful ageing. The data favours the theory that, in order to live to 100, it is mandatory to inherit the right genetic variants from parents or acquire epigenetic variants through the environment. Therefore, the study of epigenetic signatures of healthy ageing is becoming an important aspect to identify the role of chromatin modification in ageing and understand how manage this fine-tuning system. So, according to the concept of developmental plasticity, establishment of a longevity phenotype requires a combination of stochastic and non-stochastic events that modulate the genetic substrate and leads to a different outcome. It can be concluded that ce…
The tools like evidences of metal working? : strike supports, abrasives and burnishers, sharpening tools and crushing tools
2013
Lots of lithic tools are present in Metal Ages, but few are studied. In metal production, they are especially constitued by strike supports, abrasives, burnishers, sharpening tools and crushing tools. A part of them are in metal ( strike supports) or in ceramic (abrasives, sharpening tools). Contemporary forms of these tools are too different to permit a dierct comparison. It is necessary to work on the function of the tools, deduced from the analysis of these structure. Strike supports used for metal working are easily identifiable. They allow to reproduce more or less precisely the objects that they were fabricated with. Abrasives are difficult to relate to a material, but the traces of u…

Purification and characterisation of a plasmin-sensitive surface protein of Staphylococcus aureus.
1996
Certain methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains contain a 230-kDa cell-wall protein which is not present on the surface of other staphylococci. The presence of this 230-kDa protein is associated with a negative test result in commercial assays designed to detect fibrinogen-binding proteins and/or protein A on the staphylococcal surface. We have purified and partially characterised the 230-kDa protein from a lysostaphin digest of a non-agglutinating methicillin-resistant S. aureus strain. Partial amino acid sequence data obtained from the purified protein did not reveal any significant similarities to known proteins which indicates that the protein is novel. The 230-kDa protein w…
The dark side of romantic relationships: Aggression in adolescent couples and links to attachment
2015
Item does not contain fulltext This study focuses on romantic relationships from the perspective of both partners. This dyadic approach was chosen to account for the fact that both partners may differently contribute to the escalation of aggression. In a sample of 194 romantic partner dyads, differences between female and male partners׳ reports of aggression (relational and physical) and measures of attachment security and jealousy were assessed. A hierarchical cluster analysis identified five distinct subgroups of dyads with mutually aggressive or one-sided aggressive dyad. Of note were dyads with aggressive females and self-silencing males. The mutually aggressive couples showed the least…
An Alginate/Cyclodextrin Spray Drying Matrix to Improve Shelf Life and Antioxidant Efficiency of a Blood Orange By-Product Extract Rich in Polyphenol…
2017
Alginate and β-cyclodextrin were used to produce easily dosable and spray-dried microsystems of a dried blood orange extract with antidysmetabolic properties, obtained from a by-product fluid extract. The spray-dried applied conditions were able to obtain a concentrate dried extract without the loss of AOA and with TPC and TMA values of 35–40% higher than that of the starting material. They were also effective in producing microparticles with 80–100% of encapsulation efficiency. The 2% sodium alginate was capable of improving the extract shelf life, while the beta-cyclodextrin (1 : 1 molar ratio with dried extract) prolonged the extract antioxidant efficiency by 6 hours. The good inhibition…
Diagonal ear lobe crease and atherosclerosis : a review of the medical literature and dental implications
2011
In Spain a significant number of individuals die from atherosclerotic disease of the coronary and carotid arteries without having classic risk factors and prodromal symptoms. The diagonal ear lobe crease (DELC) has been characterized in the medical literature as a surrogate marker which can identify high risk patients having occult atherosclerosis. This topic however has not been examined in either the medical or dental literature emanating from Spain. The majority of clinical, angiography and postmortem reports support the premise that DELC is a valuable extravascular physical sign able to distinguish some patients at risk of succumbing to atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries. A minori…
Determination of butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, benzophenone-3, octyl dimethyl PABA and octyl methoxycinnamate in lipsticks.
2003
The complex composition of lipstick formulations usually needs the use of organic solvents for sample dissolution. A treatment based on dissolution of cosmetic samples in ethanol-water (70 : 30, v/v) by use of ultrasonic irradiation is proposed. A C(18) stationary phase and an isocratic mobile phase of ethanol:water:acetic acid (70 : 29.5 : 0.5, v/v/v) with a flow rate of 1 mL min(-1) and an injection volume of 20 microL is proposed for the high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) determination of four UV-filters, and detection was carried out at 309 nm. The limit of the chromatographic detection was 7.0 microg mL(-1) for butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, 1.5 microg mL(-1) for benzophenone-3…
A53T-Alpha-Synuclein Overexpression Impairs Dopamine Signaling and Striatal Synaptic Plasticity in Old Mice
2010
BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD), the second most frequent neurodegenerative disorder at old age, can be caused by elevated expression or the A53T missense mutation of the presynaptic protein alpha-synuclein (SNCA). PD is characterized pathologically by the preferential vulnerability of the dopaminergic nigrostriatal projection neurons. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Here, we used two mouse lines overexpressing human A53T-SNCA and studied striatal dysfunction in the absence of neurodegeneration to understand early disease mechanisms. To characterize the progression, we employed young adult as well as old mice. Analysis of striatal neurotransmitter content demonstrated that dopamine (DA…
YAP/TAZ activity in stromal cells prevents ageing by controlling cGAS-STING
2022
Ageing is intimately connected to the induction of cell senescence(1,2), but why this is so remains poorly understood. A key challenge isthe identification of pathways that normally suppress senescence, are lost during ageing and are functionally relevant to oppose ageing(3). Here we connected the structural and functional decline of ageing tissues to attenuated function of the master effectors of cellular mechanosignalling YAP and TAZ. YAP/TAZ activity declines during physiological ageing in stromal cells, and mimicking such decline through genetic inactivation of YAP/TAZ in these cells leads to accelerated ageing. Conversely, sustaining YAP function rejuvenates old cells and opposes the e…
