Wodurch unterscheidet sie sich von Abdruck, Zeichen und Indiz? Die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes reflektieren den Spurbegriff aus deutsch-französischer sowie aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive. On the basis of unpublished manuscript materials – especially a letter from 22nd April, 1866 – this paper reconstructs some unknown aspects of the background and of the evaluation of Wilhelm Studemund’s apograph of the Institutes of Gaius published in 1874 and its Supplementa published in 1884. Particular attention is paid to the use of chemical substances for the decipherment of the Gaius’ palimpsest.
