Typology and Representation of Alterations in Territorial Units: A Proposal

2018

Abstract This article proposes a typology of boundary changes in territorial units at two points in time. The different types of changes are organized in a hierarchy and represented homogeneously, independently of the number of territorial units involved and of the changes to them. Each alteration is described precisely and unambiguously, and it is codified to allow the information to be treated automatically. In addition to providing efficient storage of the information about these changes, a canonical representation facilitates the automatic detection of inconsistencies in the database. At the same time, the typology allows us to define backward and forward equivalence rules, which helps …

Fuzzy sliding mode control design for a class of disturbed systems

2014

This paper discusses the problem of the fuzzy sliding mode control for a class of disturbed systems. First, a fuzzy auxiliary controller is constructed based on a feedback signal not only to estimate the unknown control term, but also participates in the sliding mode control due to the fuzzy rule employed. Then, we extend our theory into the cases, where some kind of system information can not be obtained, for better use of our theoretical results in real engineering. Finally, some typical numerical examples are included to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantage of the designed sliding mode controller. Refereed/Peer-reviewed

Partnerzy bez partnerstwa? Realizacja zasady partnerstwa w procesie wdrażania regionalnych programów operacyjnych w Polsce w perspektywie finansowej …

2021

W niniejszym artykule podjęto próbę określenia stopnia realizacji zasady partnerstwa w procesie wdrażania regionalnych programów operacyjnych (RPO) w Polsce w obecnej perspektywie finansowej (2014–2020). Przyjęto założenie, że instytucjonalnym sposobem realizacji zasady partnerstwa jest powołanie i funkcjonowanie komitetów monitorujących (KM). Analizą porównawczą objęto praktyczne aspekty działania komitetów w ramach RPO w trzech województwach: lubuskim, świętokrzyskim i kujawsko-pomorskim. Do celów porównawczych wykorzystano następujące parametry instytucjonalno-organizacyjne: liczba posiedzeń komitetów w perspektywie finansowej 2014–2020, liczba przeprowadzonych procedur głosowania obiego…

Precision Measurement of the Mass and Lifetime of the Xi(-)(b) Baryon

2016

We report on measurements of the mass and lifetime of the Ξ[- over b] baryon using about 1800 Ξ[- over b] decays reconstructed in a proton-proton collision data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0  fb[superscript -1] collected by the LHCb experiment. The decays are reconstructed in the Ξ[- over b] → Ξ[0 over c]π[superscript -], Ξ[0 over c] → pK[superscript -]K[superscript -]π[superscript +] channel and the mass and lifetime are measured using the Λ[0 over b] → Λ[+ over c]π[superscript -] mode as a reference. We measure M(Ξ[- over b] - M(Λ[0 over b]) = 178.36 ± 0.46 ± 0.16  MeV/c[superscript 2], (τ[subscript Ξ[- over b]/τ[subscript Λ[0 over b]) = 1.089 ± 0.026 ± 0.011, where…

Analysis of Multilocus Sequence Typing and Virulence Characterization of Listeria monocytogenes Isolates from Chinese Retail Ready-to-Eat Food

2016

Eighty Listeria monocytogenes isolates were obtained from Chinese retail ready-to-eat (RTE) food and were previously characterized with serotyping and antibiotic susceptibility tests. The aim of this study was to characterize the subtype and virulence potential of these L. monocytogenes isolates by multilocus sequence typing (MLST), virulence-associate genes, epidemic clones (ECs), and sequence analysis of the important virulence factor: internalin A (inlA). The result of MLST revealed that these L. monocytogenes isolates belonged to 14 different sequence types (STs). With the exception of four new STs (ST804, ST805, ST806, and ST807), all other STs observed in this study have been associat…

Dangerous relationships : biases in freshwater bioassessment based on observed to expected ratios

2018

Copyright by the Ecological Society of America The ecological assessment of freshwaters is currently primarily based on biological communities and the reference condition approach (RCA). In the RCA, the communities in streams and lakes disturbed by humans are compared with communities in reference conditions with no or minimal anthropogenic influence. The currently favored rationale is using selected community metrics for which the expected values (E) for each site are typically estimated from environmental variables using a predictive model based on the reference data. The proportional differences between the observed values (O) and E are then derived, and the decision rules for status ass…

Pneumococcal histidine triads – involved not only in Zn2+, but also Ni2+ binding?

2018

Polyhistidine triad proteins, which participate in Zn2+ uptake in Streptococcus pneumoniae, contain multiple copies of the HxxHxH (histidine triad motif) sequence. We focus on three such motifs from one of the most common and well-conserved polyhistidine triad proteins, PhtA, in order to understand their bioinorganic chemistry; particular focus is given to (i) understanding which of the PhtA triads binds Zn2+ with the highest affinity (and why) and (ii) explaining whether Ni2+ (also crucial for bacterial survival and virulence) could potentially outcompete Zn2+ at its native binding site. There is no significant difference in the stability of zinc(II) complexes with the three studied protei…

Islamic Rites and ceremonies in the Pandemic Emergency between Parallel Legal Orders

2021

The essay investigates how some religious Islamic rules have been accommodated in front ofthe Covid emergency in some European countries and religious communities, highlighting the different and interconnected dimensions involved in this process of accommodation. The author uses the word country, having regard to the state-territorial legal order; and the word religious community, referring to the Islamic rule of law-religion model, based on a personal law conception. In particular, after some conceptual definition on some peculiar issues involved (para. 1), the analysis goes through some rules on funeral rites and ceremonies (para. 2) and on the sacred pilgrimages (para. 3). The conclusive…

Search, Nash Bargaining and Rule of Thumb Consumers

2009

This paper analyses the effects of introducing typical Keynesian features, namely rule-of-thumb consumers and consumption habits, into a standard labour market search model. It is a well-known fact that labour market matching with Nash-wage bargaining improves the ability of the standard real business cycle model to replicate some of the cyclical properties featuring the labour market. However, when habits and rule-of-thumb consumers are taken into account, the labour market search model gains extra power to reproduce some of the stylised facts characterising the US labour market, as well as other business cycle facts concerning aggregate consumption and investment behaviour.
