The Rational Formula (RF) is probably the most frequently applied equation in practical hydrology to compute the peak discharge, due to its simplicity and effective compromise between theory and data availability. Thus, after more than a century, the estimation of peak discharge through the RF is still an important and challenging issue in hydrology. This paper deals with the response determination of a visco-elastic Timoshenko beam under static loading condition and taking into account fractional calculus. In particular, the fractional derivative terms arise from representing constitutive behavior of the visco-elastic material. Further, taking advantages of the Mellin transform method recently developed for the solution of fractional differential equation, the problem of fractional Timoshenko beam model is assessed in time domain without invoking the Laplace-transforms as usual. Le but de cette etude est de comparer les resultats de 2 techniques chirurgicales d'abaissement transanal par voie perineale pour maladie de Hirschsprung de forme recto-sigmoidienne. Materiel et Methode: Vingt-et-un patients porteurs de maladie de Hirschsprung de forme recto-sigmoidienne ont ete consecutivement operes entre novembre 1999 et avril 2003 dans les services de Chirurgie Pediatrique de Dijon et Strasbourg. Das Krankheitsbild des hyperkinetischen Syndroms (HKS) oder der Aufmerksamkeitsdefizit-/Hyperaktivitatsstorung beim Erwachsenen ist im deutschsprachigen Raum wenig bekannt. Es ist davon auszugehen, das etwa ein Drittel der betroffenen Kinder Symptome auch im Erwachsenenalter zeigt. Successive alkalinity producing system for the treatment of acid sulphate soil runoff: preliminary results of a field trial

A successive alkalinity producing system (SAPS) has been investigated as a potential passive treatment option for acid, metal containing runoff from acid sulphate soil. A pilot-scale system was installed at an agricultural land site in Rintala embankment area in mid-western Finland. The experimental layout consists of three parallel treatment units: two different SAPS cells and one limestone-filled cell for comparison of performance. The SAPS cells are composed of a bottom layer of limestone and a top layer of compost supplemented with sand.
