Analysis of non-Saccharomyces yeast populations isolated from grape musts from Sicily (Italy).

Aims The aim of this study was to identify the non-Saccharomyces yeast populations present in the grape must microflora from wineries from different areas around the island of Sicily. Methods and results Yeasts identification was conducted on 2575 colonies isolated from six musts, characterized using Wallerstein Laboratory (WL) nutrient agar, restriction analysis of the amplified 5.8S-internal transcribed spacer region and restriction profiles of amplified 26S rDNA. In those colonies, we identified 11 different yeast species originating from wine musts from two different geographical areas of the island of Sicily. Fast identification of wine related lactic acid bacteria by multiplex PCR

The microflora of must and wine consists of yeasts, acetic acid bacteria and lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The latter group plays an important role for wine quality. The malolactic fermentation carried out by LAB leads to deacidification and stabilisation of wines. Nevertheless, LAB are often associated with wine spoilage. They are mainly responsible for the formation of biogenic amines. Furthermore, some strains produce exopolysaccharide slimes, acetic acid, diacetyl and other off-flavours. Yeasts involved in velum formation during biological ageing of sherry wine have to date been classified into four races of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (beticus, cheresiensis, montuliensis, rouxii) according to their abilities to ferment different sugars. A comparative account of quantum dynamics of the H+ + H2 reaction at low temperature on two different potential energy surfaces

Rotationally resolved reaction probabilities, integral cross sections, and rate constant for the H+ + H2 (v = 0, j = 0 or 1) → H2 (v′ = 0, j′) + H + reaction are calculated using a time-independent quantum mechanical method and the potential energy surface of Kamisaka et al. [J. Chem. Phys.116, 654 (2002)] (say KBNN PES). All partial wave contributions of the total angular momentum, J, are included to obtain converged cross sections at low collision energies and rate constants at low temperatures. An atlas- and data-driven approach to initializing reaction-diffusion systems in computer cardiac electrophysiology

The cardiac electrophysiology (EP) problem is governed by a nonlinear anisotropic reaction-diffusion system with a very rapidly varying reaction term associated with the transmembrane cell current. The nonlinearity associated with the cell models requires a stabilization process before any simulation is performed. More importantly, when used in a 3-dimensional (3D) anatomy, it is not sufficient to perform this stabilization on the basis of isolated cells only, since the coupling of the different cells through the tissue greatly modulates the dynamics of the system. Kinetics of zinc anodic dissolution from the EIS characteristic points

A possible faradaic impedance function for the complex mechanism of metals electrodissolution across two consecutive electrotransferences has been developed in this work. The analysis of this function provides some characteristics points from which it is possible to calculate kinetic parameters of these processes. The dependence of these parameters on the potential has been studied in the case of Zn. These ones have been interpreted in terms of changes in the controlling stages of the overall rate of reaction. Guidelines for the assessment of the rate law of slurry photocatalytic reactions

Abstract The assessment of the rate law of slurry photocatalytic reactions appears to be a hard task, mainly because in this type of reactions the average rate of reaction, which is experimentally observed in a real reactor, could be very different from the “true” (intrinsic) rate of reaction, which cannot be measured directly. In the present work, it is shown how a proper mathematical model allows the utilization of the differential and/or the integral methods of kinetic analysis. Higher order fractional differential equations are important tools to deal with precise models of materials with hereditary and memory effects. Moreover, fractional differential inequalities are useful to establish the properties of solutions of different problems in biomathematics and flow phenomena. In the present work, we are concerned with the nonexistence of global solutions to a higher order fractional differential inequality with a nonlinearity involving Caputo fractional derivative. Abstract The knowledge of the rate equation is fundamental for the assessment of the activity of the photocatalytic material and for the study, design and optimization of photocatalytic reactors.
