Hydrogenation of acetylene in ethylene rich feedstocks: Comparison between palladium catalysts supported on pumice and alumina

1998

Abstract The activity–selectivity patterns of Pd/pumice catalysts are compared with industrial and home prepared Pd/Al2O3 catalysts in the hydrogenation of acetylene in ethylene rich feedstocks (front-end and tail-end cuts). The iso-kinetic relationship (IKR) approach and a new mathematical model, surface site evolution model (SSEM), are employed in this comparison. Pumice and alumina supported Pd catalysts show different metal redox properties. A similar reaction mechanism is adequate to describe the reaction pathway independently by the catalysts and the gas mixtures considered. This mechanism involves the formation of surface polymers during the catalytic reactions and different catalyti…

Controlled rearrangement of lactam-tethered allenols with brominating reagents: a combined experimental and theoretical study on α- versus β-keto lac…

2011

N-Bromosuccinimide (NBS) smoothly promotes the ring expansion of lactam-tethered allenols to efficiently afford cyclic α- or β-ketoamides with good yields and high chemo-, regio-, and diastereoselectivity, through controlled C-C bond cleavage of the β- or γ-lactam nucleus. Interestingly, in contrast to the rearrangement reactions of 2-azetidinone-tethered allenols, which lead to the corresponding tetramic acid derivatives (β-keto lactam adducts) as the sole products, the reactions of 2-indolinone-tethered allenols under similar conditions give quinoline-2,3-diones (α-keto lactam adducts) as the exclusive or major products. To rationalize the experimental observations, theoretical studies ha…

Nickel-catalyzed carboxylation of aryl zinc reagent with CO2: A theoretical and experimental study

2019

Abstract Two Ni-complexes with 1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf) and tricyclohexylphosphine (PCy3) ligands were tested for the Ni-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl zinc reagent with CO2 to form aryl carboxylic acid. Theoretical study with the aid of density functional theory (DFT) was carried out to understand the detailed reaction mechanism. The reasonable reaction pathway was deduced. The simulation results suggested that the free energy barrier of the rate-limiting step with (dppf)Ni is only 1.64 kcal mol−1 higher than the barrier with (PCy3)2Ni. However, our experiment provided an unexpectedly low yield by using (dppf)Ni complex as the catalyst. Further theoretical study ascrib…

Direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate with supercritical carbon dioxide: characterization of a key organotin oxide intermediate

2006

The direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) using carbon dioxide as solvent and reagent for its fixation to methanol was explored with din-butyldimethoxystannane in order to get insight into the reaction mechanism for activity improvement. Catalytic runs including recycling experiments allowed isolation and characterization by NMR, IR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction of a new tin complex containing 10 tin atoms. This compound could be prepared independently and is considered as a resting species. The yield of DMC is highest under 20 MPa pressure that fits with a monophasic supercritical medium in agreement with fluid phase equilibria calculations. In line, preliminary kinetics and…

Metal- and Reagent-Free Electrochemical Synthesis of Alkyl Arylsulfonates in a Multi-Component Reaction.

2020

Abstract This work presents the first electrochemical preparation of alkyl arylsulfonates by direct anodic oxidation of electron‐rich arenes. The reaction mechanism features a multi‐component reaction consisting of electron‐rich arenes, an alcohol of choice and excess SO2 in an acetonitrile‐HFIP reaction mixture. In‐situ formed monoalkyl sulfites are considered as key intermediates with bifunctional purpose. Firstly, this species functions as nucleophile and secondly, excellent conductivity is provided. Several primary and secondary alcohols and electron‐rich arenes are implemented in this reaction to form the alkyl arylsulfonates in yields up to 73 % with exquisite selectivity. Boron‐doped…

ChemInform Abstract: Oxidative Transformation of Aryls Using Molybdenum Pentachloride

2012

Molybdenum pentachloride combines a strong Lewis acid character with an unusually high oxidation potential creating a powerful reagent for oxidative transformations. Since the oxidative coupling reaction of aryls is induced at an extraordinarily high reaction rate, a variety of labile groups, e.g. iodo, tert-alkyl, etc., are tolerated on the aromatic core. Furthermore, the co-formed molybdenum salts can either be exploited for template effects to obtain uncommon geometries in a preferred manner, or redox-play starts after aqueous workup. Therefore MoCl5 represents a unique and easily available reagent.

Intermolecular Cystine-Bonding of Murine Interleukin 2 Indicates that Ligand Dimerization is Important for the Formation of the High-Affinity Recepto…

1992

Interleukin 2 is thought to be active as a monomeric protein. As the nonessential Cys-140 of murine interleukin 2 (mIL2) is located in the hydrophobic interface of the amphiphilic F domain it was successfully used to stabilize hydrophobic amino acid contacts between two mIL2 cores yielding biologically active cystine-bonded dimeric mIL2. (3H) thymidine incorporation assays with intermolecular cystine-bonded or monomeric mIL2 revealed almost identical median effective concentrations (EC50) and high-affinity dissociation constants (Kdh), respectively. Comparative binding and internalization assays suggest that one cystine-bonded dimeric or two monomeric mIL2 molecules bind to the high-affinit…

The N-terminal Amino Group of [Tyr8]Bradykinin Is Bound Adjacent to Analogous Amino Acids of the Human and Rat B2 Receptor

1996

To obtain data of the bradykinin B2 receptor's agonist binding site, we used a combined approach of affinity labeling and "immunoidentification" of receptor fragments generated by cyanogen bromide cleavage. Domain-specific antibodies to the various extracellular receptor domains were applied to detect receptor fragments with covalently attached [125I-Tyr8]bradykinin. As a cross-linker we used the homobifunctional reagent disuccinimidyl tartarate (DST), which reacts preferentially with primary amines. With this technique a [125I-Tyr8]bradykinin-labeled receptor fragment derived from the third extracellular domain was identified. The epsilon-amino group of lysine (Lys172) of the human B2 rece…

Evaluation of a solid-phase extraction system for determining pesticide residues in milk.

1993

Abstract A simple and rapid procedure based on reversed solid-phase extraction with octadecylsilica was developed for determining chlorinated pesticide residues in milk. The need for an agent that breaks the fat globules was first investigated and the method variables were optimized on whole homogenized milk (3.6% fat content). Recovery experiments performed for 26 organochlorine pesticides at levels of 3–40 μg/l gave > 80% recoveries for all the compounds. The method was validated and evaluated by comparison with two widely used liquid-liquid extraction methods. The performance was checked by analysis of a certified standard with natural low endogenous levels (CMR 187) and different kinds …

Enantioresolution in electrokinetic chromatography-complete filling technique using sulfated gamma-cyclodextrin. Software-free topological anticipati…

2016

Few papers have tried to predict the resolution ability of chiral selectors in capillary electrophoresis for the separation of the enantiomers of chiral compounds. In a previous work, we have used molecular information available on-line to establish enantioresolution levels of basic compounds using highly sulfated β-CD (HS-β-CD) as chiral selector in electrokinetic chromatography-complete filling technique (EKC-CFT). The present study is a continuation of this previous work, introducing some novelties. In this work, the ability of sulfated γ-cyclodextrin (S-γ-CD) as chiral selector in EKC-CFT is modelled for the first time. Thirty-three structurally unrelated cationic and neutral compounds …
