Environmental effects on the covariation among pace-of-life traits

Pace‐of‐life syndromes (POLSs) are suites of life‐history, physiological and behavioural traits that arise due to trade‐offs between allocation to current and future reproduction. Traits generally show covariation that can arise from genetic and environmental influences on phenotypes and constrain the independent evolution of traits, resulting in fitness consequences and impacts on population dynamics. The notion that correlations among traits may vary among populations along environmental gradients suggests an important role for the environment in shaping and maintaining POLSs. Codes of conduct have become perhaps the most frequently used tool in the management of corporate social responsibility. This research aims to determine the wa y in which Credit Institutions perceive tr ansparency and to see how this influ- ences the application of codes of ethics. The fieldwork was conducted by means of a survey that was answered by 57 Spanish Credit Institutions. If the Catholic Church experiences difficulties in today’s world of ‘hyper-communication’ and 24/7 media pressure, esoteric religious language or generalised misuse of the media may not be the only factors to blame. This paper is based on the hypothesis that the reasons run more deeply into the communications ethos of the Catholic Church itself. Summary: Chromatin organization plays a crucial role in tissue homeostasis. Heterochromatin relaxation and consequent unscheduled mobilization of transposable elements (TEs) are emerging as key contributors of aging and aging-related pathologies, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and cancer. However, the mechanisms governing heterochromatin maintenance or its relaxation in pathological conditions remain poorly understood. Here we show that PIN1, the only phosphorylation-specific cis/trans prolyl isomerase, whose loss is associated with premature aging and AD, is essential to preserve heterochromatin. Abstract Urban habitats differ from their natural surroundings in various aspects, such as a higher temperature and a distinct species composition. It is therefore not surprising that animal behavior too differs between these habitat types. We studied the foraging and habitat selection behavior of a pit-building predator, a wormlion, originating from either an urban or a more natural site. Wormlions occur in nature under structures that provide shelter from sunlight and rain, such as caves, and are also common in cities, occurring under artificial shelters. Pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot, vai bērnībā piedzīvotajai traumatiskajai pieredzei, izjustajiem traumas simptomiem, negatīvajai komunikācijai par ēšanas uzvedību pastāv saistība ar ēšanas uzvedību. Papildus pētījumā tika apskatītas dzimumatšķirības un izmainītas ēšanas uzvedības biežumi. Pētījumā piedalījās 726 pusaudži (369 – meitenes, 344 – zēni, 13 – nenorādot dzimumu) vecumā no 11 līdz 16 gadiem, 5. un 9. klases skolēni. Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot vai pastāv saistība starp bērnībā piedzīvotas vardarbības pieredzi, traumas simptomiem, paškaitējošo uzvedību un pašnāvības domām, kādas ir šo saistību dzimumatšķirības un vai pastāv atšķirības starp paškaitējošas uzvedības veidiem un biežumiem dažādos vecumposmos. Pētījumā piedalījās 184 respondenti (109 sievietes un 75 vīrieši) vecumā no 18 – 64 gadiem.
