The aim of the article is to compare the preliminary results of the research on the data gathered in the VILLA project with the reflections of the teacher conducting all the sessions (ten courses in Polish for beginners). Mācoties svešvalodu, skolēnam ir jāapgūst rakstīšanas prasmes, klausīšanās prasmes, lasīšanas prasmes un runāšanas prasmes. Darba autore saskārās ar to, ka ir skolēni, kuriem ir grūtības apgūt tieši runāšanas prasmes, un viņi ir izjūt trauksmi un pat bailes brīžos, kad ir jārunā angļu valodā.   Tämän proseminaaritutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tutkia abiturienttien motivaatiota opiskella englantia ja ruotsia ja vertailla mahdollisia eroja vastaajien motivaatiossa kyseisiä kieliä kohtaan. Tutkimuksessa haluttiin selvittää muun muassa sitä, kuinka suuri rooli tulevilla ylioppilaskirjoituksilla, jatko-opiskeluilla ja tulevalla työllä on abiturienttien kielten opiskelussa ja opiskelumotivaatiossa. The present paper reports on a qualitative study investigating how Iranian learners of English as a foreign language understand culture and the extent to which this understanding meets the needs of efficient intercultural communication. In order to gather data, in-depth semistructured interviews were conducted with eight participants. The interviews were designed and thematically analyzed using Baker’s (2011) model of intercultural awareness. Foreign language (FL) learning is increasingly examined in terms of the language learning person’s agency, autonomy and identity. What agency refers to in FL learning and how it relates to autonomy and identity nevertheless remains unclear. As theoretical discussions about the interconnections are ambiguous, more empirical evidence is needed. The present article addresses this need, contributing to a fuller understanding of the three notions in FL education. This paper aims at sharing the experience we had in the design and implementation of a short pilot course of Italian in Second Life® (SL). The paper will provide a description of the course mentioning preliminary findings, discussed in relation to the theories adopted by the two researchers.
