Dispersive magnetic immunoaffinity extraction. Anatoxin-a determination.
2017
Specific monoclonal antibodies were coupled with magnetic Sepharose-based beads and used, for the first time. The methodology was applied to preconcentrate anatoxin-a from water and the later determination by ion mobility spectrometry (IMS). Dispersive magnetic immunoaffinity (d-MagIA) extraction methodology provided a limit of detection of 0.02μgL-1 and a satisfactory precision with a relative standard deviation lower than 15%. Recoveries were evaluated at 0.5, 1.0 and 5.0μgL-1 anatoxin-a with quantitative values from 91 to 115%. Additionally, isobaric interferences with phenylalanine were completely avoided by the use of the developed d-MagIA extraction coupled to IMS determinations.
Who Persistently Creates Jobs? Absolute versus Relative High-Growth Firms
2017
This paper examines the economic contribution of high-growth firms after their high-growth event. While the central role of high-growth firms for job creation is well-established, little is known about their dynamic development in coming periods. We address this question for the first time by comparing absolute with relative growth measures and use data on private firms in Bulgaria for three consecutive 3-year periods (2001-2004, 2004-2007, and 2007-2010). Next to calculating transition probability matrices to investigate growth in employees in coming periods, we model future employment growth by means of a two-part model with separate equations for the probability of survival and exit as w…
Sensor response time evaluations of trace hydrogen gaseous species with platinum using Kelvin Probe
2012
Kelvin Probe (KP), a non-contact, non-destructive vibrating capacitor device, was used to measure the work function (WF) difference of thin Pt films, deposited on oxidized silicon substrates, with highly diluted H 2 gas, in ppm levels, in the presence of with and without relative humidity (RH). Response times were extracted from the behavior of WF shift as a function of H 2 concentration values. Measurements were compared for zero and non-zero RH conditions at a fixed temperature of 30°C. Changes in WF were evaluated by using HP VEE program, suitably modified for the present measurements. The events were executed step by step for every second time interval through an input formatted file. T…
The Duality of Entropy/Extropy, and Completion of the Kullback Information Complex
2018
The refinement axiom for entropy has been provocative in providing foundations of information theory, recognised as thoughtworthy in the writings of both Shannon and Jaynes. A resolution to their concerns has been provided recently by the discovery that the entropy measure of a probability distribution has a dual measure, a complementary companion designated as &ldquo
The Relationship Between Overeducation and Job Satisfaction Among Young Spanish Workers: The Role of Salary, Contract of Employment, and Work Experie…
2010
The increase of education in younger generations and the relative scarcity of qualified jobs available for them makes overeducation of young employees a social issue. We explored the relationships between overeducation and job satisfaction (extrinsic, intrinsic, social facet), as well as the direct and moderating role of salary, contract of employment, and work experience in these relationships using hierarchical regression analyses. Data were collected from a sample of 643 young Spanish employees. As expected, there were negative relationships between overeducation and all 3 satisfaction facets. Moreover, high work experience emerged as a moderating factor that buffered the negative effect…
Supplemental Perioperative Oxygen and the Risk of Surgical Wound Infection: A Randomized Controlled Trial
2006
ABSTRACT Three hundred patients were enrolled in a double-blind, randomized, controlled study designed to investigate the ability of supplemental perioperative oxygen to reduce wound infection. Participants were age 18 to 80 years, had no coexisting serious medical conditions, and were scheduled to undergo elective colorectal surgery at one of 14 participating hospitals in Spain. No patients undergoing minor or laparoscopic surgery were included. Anesthesia and antibiotic prophylaxis were standardized for the study. Patients were randomized by computer-generated codes to receive an oxygen/air mixture of 30% or 80% fraction of inspired oxygen (F102) intraoperatively and postoperatively for 6…
Application of sol-gel and laser evaporation methods to obtain thin gas sensitive films
2005
New type resistive/capacitative gas sensitive structures were obtained by using a specially prepared substrate- glass, covered by thin conducting In/sub 2/O/sub 3/ layer, cutted into a comb teeth-type electrodes by help of laser beam. Such laser processed gap in the layer of conducting material was a prototype of excellent humidity sensor, especially at high values of relative humidity (RH). Different additional coatings onto a laser processed gap were examined for humidity sensing. Sol-gel, vacuum thermal evaporation and laser evaporation methods were used to obtain a thin layers of different materials.
Elaboración de modelos 3D de diferentes morfologías y escalas utilizando técnicas Structure-from-Motion y fotografías terrestres
2016
Spatial correlations of mobility and immobility in a glass-forming Lennard-Jones liquid
1998
Using extensive molecular dynamics simulations of an equilibrium, glass-forming Lennard-Jones mixture, we characterize in detail the local atomic motions. We show that spatial correlations exist among particles undergoing extremely large (``mobile'') or extremely small (``immobile'') displacements over a suitably chosen time interval. The immobile particles form the cores of relatively compact clusters, while the mobile particles move cooperatively and form quasi-one-dimensional, stringlike clusters. The strength and length scale of the correlations between mobile particles are found to grow strongly with decreasing temperature, and the mean cluster size appears to diverge near the mode-cou…
Survival time and differences between dementia with Lewy bodies and Alzheimer’s disease following diagnosis: a meta-analysis of longitudinal studies.
2019
Objective: To synthesize the evidence across longitudinal studies comparing survival in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies comparing survival in clinically diagnosed DLB to AD. Longitudinal cohort studies were identified through a systematic search of major electronic databases from inception to May 2018. A random effects meta-analysis was performed to calculate survival time and relative risk of death. Results: Overall, 11 studies were identified including 22,952 patients with dementia: 2029 with DLB (mean diagnosis age 76.3; 47% female) compared with 20,923 with AD (mean diagnosis age 77.2; 6…
