2016

A missed target of the Republican Italy is the adoption of an "organic" law on religious freedom. A lack determined in spite of the presence of intemal and extemal stimuli ( of cultural, poli ti cal and legal nature) that might have led to a different outcome: among the first, in particular, the chance to mark a discontinuity with the previous regime and to replace the "general" Legge sui Cu/ti ammessi (1929), conflicting with the Charta of 1948 on multiple fronts; regarding the latter, the suggestions (more or less compelling) occurred over time from Spain and Portugal, Countries with an history of relations between law, politics and religion in many respects parallel to the Italian one. Kościół dla wybranych? O specyfice indyjskich chrześcijan knānāya

2015

The visual principle and the correlation between teaching of the Catholic religion and art education in Polish school

2017

Contemporary culture – as already noted – is becoming more and more visual. Contemporary catechesis, referring to its rich, centuries-long experience, should also use different types of images. The first part of this article presents the visual principle as one of basic educating principles, and the second part presents the correlation between the teaching of Catholic religion, and art education in Polish schools. One specific example of using religious painting are in textbooks. Masterpieces of painting, created during centuries and expressing particular desires of their creators, still remain an important inspiration, among others, to the religious search. Faith, though strongly anchored …

The Ethnic Pluralism of the Nineteenth Century in Transylvania according to the Ecclesiastical Painting of the Grecu Brothers

2016

Abstract Despite the development of the iconographic programs, the frescoes painted by the Grecu brothers remind us not only of the large ensembles beyond the Carpathians in Walachia and Moldova but also other Transylvanian decorations. These frescoes express not only the spirit of the time or the mentality of the community to which they belonged, but they also represented an opportunity to show the painters’ originality and personality, their need for personal affirmation and artistic individuality, connected to a new sensitivity of a given historical context. The representation of the inhabiting nations in Transylvania in the Passion’s Cycle highlights the disadvantaged status of the Roma…

Devotees, A New Ordeal and A Sense of Belonging: Ethnography and Nethnography of Saint Agatha

2012

In 2004 and in 2008, the author conducted ethnographic research in Catania (Southern Italy) on one of the most important religious feasts in honor of Saint Agatha. This chapter relates Agatha's story, which is that of a Sicilian virgin martyr persecuted in the fourth century by a Roman proconsul. At the feast of St. Agatha, the three elements: the extra-ecclesial nature of popular religiosity, the transmission of knowledge through vehicles other than seminaries and other official religious institutions, and the expression of popular religiosity with signs and symbols that transmit the presence of the supernatural in everyday life, can be found. A starting point was to identify and understan…

Cosa può dirci l’antico. Spazi, forme e funzioni dei pellegrinaggi cristiani “minori”

2016
