Mitochondrial and chromosomal DNA alterations in human chromophobe renal cell carcinomas

Renal cell tumours are characterized by the loss of chromosome 3p and trisomy of 5q segments (common, non-papillary renal cell carcinoma), or by trisomy of chromosomes 7 and 17 and loss of the Y chromosome (papillary renal cell carcinoma), or by random karyotype changes and mitochondrial DNA alterations (renal oncocytoma). We have studied by means of RFLP analysis the genomic and mitochondrial DNA in 11 chromophobe renal cell carcinomas, which have a unique morphology among kidney cancers. Bone metastasis develops in 30% of all patients with renal cell carcinoma. We elucidated the mechanisms that lead to and predict bone metastasis of renal cell carcinoma.Nine renal cell carcinoma primary cell lines and 30 renal cell carcinoma tissue specimens (normal and tumor tissue) were collected from 3 patients with no metastasis and 10 with lung or bone metastasis within 5 years after nephrectomy. Vaginal Metastasis from Renal Cell Carcinoma: The Role of Electron Microscopy

A case of vaginal metastasis from a renal cell carcinoma is reported. This rare localization is often the first clue leading to the diagnosis of an occult renal adenocarcinoma. The role of electron microscopy is emphasized, since the histologic aspect of the lesion is similar to that of a primary vaginal mesonephric adenocarcinoma.

Novel Monoclonal Antibody 138H11 Against Human γ-Glutamyl-Transferase: Classification, Histogenesis and Immunoscintigraphy of Renal Tumors

Monoclonal antibody (mAb) 138H11 was produced against human gamma-glutamyl transferase as a molecular probe for renal cancer. Immunohistochemical analyses of mAb 138H11 revealed its reaction with the brush border of normal kidney cortex as well as with clear cell and chromophilic renal carcinomas. In contrast, renal oncocytomas, chromophobic carcinomas, and Duct-Bellini carcinomas were negative for this antibody. These results support a new approach for the histogenesis and classification of renal tumors. Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma to Submandibular Gland: A Rare Occurrence

Approximately 20-30% of patients affected by renal cell carcinoma (RCC) present with metastatic disease, and 20% to 40% undergoing nephrectomy for clinically localized disease will develop metastases. A 53 years old female patient developed a left submandibular swelling. Four years before she experienced a left radical nephrectomy for a clear cell tumor and two years later right kidney was removed for a cancer having the same histologic subtype. In that circumstance duodenal pancreasectomy was required for infiltration of pancreatic gland. Identification of metabolic enzymes in renal cell carcinoma utilizing PROTEOMEX analyses

Abstract PROTEOMEX, an approach which combines conventional proteome analysis with serological screening, is a powerful tool to separate proteins and identify immunogenic components in malignant diseases.
