Biosensor Analysis of β2-Glycoprotein I–Reactive Autoantibodies: Evidence for Isotype-Specific Binding and Differentiation of Pathogenic from Infecti…
2007
Abstract Background: For the laboratory diagnosis of the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) we developed a biosensor with the ability to distinguish between disease-relevant anti-β2-glycoprotein I (β2GPI) autoantibodies (anti-β2GPI) and pathogen-specific β2GPI cross-reactive antibodies that occur transiently during infections. Methods: We used a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor device. For the detection of anti-β2GPI in serum samples, affinity-purified human β2GPI was covalently attached to a functionalized n-alkanethiol self-assembling monolayer on the biosensor chip. After verifying the specificity of the biosensor system with a panel of monoclonal antibodies to β2GPI, we analyzed s…
Atypical Antipsychotics in the Treatment of Acute Bipolar Depression with Mixed Features: A Systematic Review and Exploratory Meta-Analysis of Placeb…
2016
Evidence supporting the use of second generation antipsychotics (SGAs) in the treatment of acute depression with mixed features (MFs) associated with bipolar disorder (BD) is scarce and equivocal. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and preliminary meta-analysis investigating SGAs in the treatment of acute BD depression with MFs. Two authors independently searched major electronic databases from 1990 until September 2015 for randomized (placebo-) controlled trials (RCTs) or open-label clinical trials investigating the efficacy of SGAs in the treatment of acute bipolar depression with MFs. A random-effect meta-analysis calculating the standardized mean difference (SMD) between SGA an…

Protocol for Low-level laser therapy in traumatic ulcer after troncular anesthesia: Case report in pediatric dentistry
2020
The aim of this study was to report a protocol of use for low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in traumatic ulcer in the lower lip after inferior alveolar nerve block anesthesia (IANBA). A 3-year-old patient, male, undergoing treatment of carious lesions was submitted to an indirect pulp capping in tooth 74 under IANBA. The procedure was completed without intercurrences, but on next day, the child presented extensive traumatic ulcer in the left lower lip, with complaint of pain. Two sequential applications with LLLT were applied in punctual mode under pressure around the lesion. After 1 week, the mother reported significant improvement. After 30 days, the lesion was fully healed. In conclusion, L…
Glycated albumin as a glycaemic marker in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease and anaemia: a preliminary report.
2019
BACKGROUND: The association between glycated albumin (GA) and glycaemic status has not been fully described in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) in relation to anaemia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between GA and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and HbA1c in patients with advanced CKD and to evaluate the influence of anaemia in such relationship. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with CKD stage 4 or 5 were included in the study. eGFR was calculated by the CKD-EPI creatinine equation. Plasma GA was measured by an enzymatic method. RESULTS: Eighty-one patients were included in the study, 46 (57%) were males; the mean age was 67 ± 14 years. HbA1c was corre…
Ventricular remodelling in rabbits with sustained high-fat diet.
2013
Aim Excess weight gain and obesity are one of the most serious health problems in the western societies. These conditions enhance risk of cardiac disease and have been linked with increased prevalence for cardiac arrhythmias and sudden death. Our goal was to study the ventricular remodelling occurring in rabbits fed with high-fat diet (HFD) and its potential arrhythmogenic mechanisms. Methods We used 15 NZW rabbits that were randomly assigned to a control (n = 7) or HFD group (n = 8) for 18 weeks. In vivo studies included blood glucose, electrocardiographic, and echocardiographic measurements. Optical mapping was performed in Langendorff-perfused isolated hearts. Results Body weight (3.69 ±…
Glycemic Variability Assessment with a 14-Day Continuous Glucose Monitoring System: When and How Long to Measure MAGE (Mean Amplitude of Glucose Excu…
2021
Mean amplitude of glucose excursion (MAGE) is considered as the “gold standard” for assessing the short-term within-day glycemic variability (GV), which is an important component of overall glycemic control. A 14-day continuous glucose monitoring system is now widely used and allows easier assessment of GV. However, it is still unknown whether MAGE, usually calculated on a 48-hour period is identical whatever the time during the 14-day lifespan of the sensor and whether a longer time period might give additional information. We evaluated in 68 patients with type 1 diabetes, MAGE during three 2-day periods (day1-day3; day6-day8; day11-day13) and during periods of 3 days and 4 days. MAGE cal…
Haemopoietic effects of 7 alpha, 17 beta dimethyltestosterone.
1979
Some haematic parameters were investigated in female COBS mice treated with 7 alpha, 17 beta Dimethyltestcsterone (DMT). The drug causes an increase of circulating platelets in normal mice. Bone marrow graft from DMT-treated donors facilitates in irradiated mice repopulation of white blood cells and platelets but lowers % survival. These data are interpreted on the basis of a commitment and a loss of self-maintenance induced by DMT on CFUs compartment. © 1979 The Italian Pharmacological Society.
Prevalence of older in-patients at risk of clopidogrel resistance according to the STIB score. Results from REPOSI registry
2017
The phenomenon of resistance to copidogrel catches the attention of a growing number of clinicians because of its frequency and the severity of adverse events related to it. The identification of patients with high platelet reactivity (HPR may help to improve their therapy applying the concept of personalized medicine, most important in the older people treated with polypharmacy. The existece of such a simple clinical method as the STIB score, that allows to predict the possible resistace to clopidogrel at the bedside without using expensive laboratory investigations, provides an attractive approach to the problem.
DHEA-Bodipy–a functional fluorescent DHEA analog for live cell imaging
2009
International audience; The androgen dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) has been reported to protect neuronal cells against dysfunction and apoptosis. Several signaling pathways involved in these effects have been described but little is known about the intracellular trafficking of DHEA. We describe design, synthesis and characterization of DHEA-Bodipy, a novel fluorescent DHEA analog. DHEA-Bodipy proved to be a functional DHEA derivative: DHEA-Bodipy (i) induced estrogen receptor α-mediated gene activation, (ii) protected PC12 rat pheochromocytoma cells against serum deprivation-induced apoptosis, and (iii) induced stress fibers and focal adhesion contacts in SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells. …
