Application of hydrolases and probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici BaltBio01 strain for cereal by-products conversion to bioproduct for food/feed
2017
The aim of this study was to apply the enzymatic treatment and fermentation by Pediococcus acidilactici BaltBio01 strain for industrial cereal by-products conversion to food/feed bioproducts with high amount of probiotic lactic acid bacteria (LAB). LAB propagated in potato media and spray-dried remained viable during 12months (7.0 log10 cfu/g) of storage and was used as a starter for cereal by-products fermentation. The changes of microbial profile, biogenic amines (BAs), mycotoxins, lactic acid (Lþ/D), lignans and alkylresorcinols (ARs) contents in fermented cereal by-product were analysed. Cereal by-products enzymatic hydrolysis before fermentation allows to obtain a higher count of LAB d…
Changes of bioactive compounds in barley industry by‐products during submerged and solid state fermentation with antimicrobial Pediococcus acidilacti…
2019
Abstract In this study, changes of bioactive compounds (crude protein (CP), crude fat (CF), dietary fiber (DF), fatty acids (FAs), free amino acids (FAAs), phenolic compounds (PCs), biogenic amines (BAs), lignans, and alkylresorcinols) in barley industry by‐products (BB) during submerged and solid state fermentation (SSF) with Pediococcus acidilactici were analyzed. It was established that both fermentation conditions reduce the CP and CF content in BB (by 25.8% and 35.9%, respectively) and increase DF content (on average by 25.0%). Fermentation increases the oleic, arachidic, eicosadienoic, behenic, and lignoceric FA in BB samples. The highest total BA content was found in untreated sample…
The atypical cannabinoid O-1602 protects against experimental colitis and inhibits neutrophil recruitment.
2011
Background: Cannabinoids are known to reduce intestinal inflammation. Atypical cannabinoids produce pharmacological effects via unidentified targets. We were interested in whether the atypical cannabinoid O-1602, reportedly an agonist of the putative cannabinoid receptor GPR55, reduces disease severity of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) and trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced colitis in C57BL/6N and CD1 mice. Methods: DSS (2.5% and 4%) was supplied in drinking water for 1 week while TNBS (4 mg) was applied as a single intrarectal bolus. Results: Both treatments caused severe colitis. Injection of O-1602 (5 mg/kg intraperitoneally) significantly reduced macroscopic and histological col…
Gluten-free flours from cereals, pseudocereals and legumes: Phenolic fingerprints and in vitro antioxidant properties.
2018
The interest in gluten-free (GF) products increases together with the increase in gluten-sensitive people. However, GF foods might have decreased nutritional quality as compared to the gluten containing counterparts. In this work, an investigation of the phenolic and antioxidant profile in 18 GF flours belonging to legumes, cereals and pseudocereals was achieved. Significant differences could be observed across samples. Total phenolic content was highest in violet rice flours, whereas total anthocyanins were highest in violet, nerone, and black rice flours. FRAP and ORAC antioxidant activities were correlated to phenolic contents and found to be higher in violet rice flours. Metabolomics hi…
Design and synthesis of biobased epoxy thermosets from biorenewable resources
2017
International audience; Biobased diepoxy synthons derived from isoeugenol, eugenol or resorcinol (DGE-isoEu, DGE-Eu and DGER, respectively) have been used as epoxy monomers in replacement of the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA). Their curing with six different biobased anhydride hardeners leads to fully biobased epoxy thermosets. These materials exhibit interesting thermal and mechanical properties comparable to those obtained with conventional petrosourced DGEBA-based epoxy resins cured in similar conditions. In particular, a high Tg in the range of 90–130 °C and instantaneous moduli higher than 4.3 GPa have been recorded. These good performances are very encouraging, making these n…
Highly efficient separation of amines by electrokinetic chromatography using resorcarene-octacarboxylic acids as pseudo-stationary phases
1998
Abstract Resorcarene-octacarboxylic acids, macrocyclic molecules built up by four alkylidene-bridged resorcinol units, were synthesized and used as pseudostationary phases in electrokinetic chromatography (EKC). Resorcarenes provide a stable structure and good solubility in electrolytes even with organic modifiers. The high electrophoretic mobility of the resorcarene-octacarboxylic acids introduced here as pseudostationary phases is based on the eight partly deprotonated carboxylic groups. This offers a broad migration time window, which is the main parameter for the resolution of peaks. From three compounds with different alkyl chain lengths (C 1 , C 5 , C 11 ), the C 11 -resorcarene-octa-…
EDTA excess Zn(II) back-titration in the presence of 4-(2-pyridylazo)-resorcinol indicator and naphthol green beta as inert dye for determining Cr(II…
2006
The colour changes of 4-(2-pyridylazo)-resorcinol and naphthol green beta as new screening metallochromic indicator in back-titration of EDTA excess with Zn(II) to determine Cr(III)/EDTA complex was investigated with the help of tristimulus colorimetry. Specific colour discrimination (SCD) and L*, a*, b* 1976 parameters were successfully applied to evaluate the quality of colour transition at the end-point in non-alkaline media and in the presence of Zn(II) and Ca(II) which resulted in non-interfering species at 1x10(-3) M and 2x10(-3) M, respectively. The above concentrations are comparable with those used for Cr(III). Validation of the fast and accurate reported method was performed by at…
Simultaneous detection of hazardous skin whitening agents in Indian cosmetic products using a green chromatographic technique
2021
The present work mainly highlights the simultaneous detection of four skin whitening agents i.e. hydroquinone (HQ), resorcinol (RS), catechol (CC) and 3,3′-dichlorobenzidine (DCB) in facial creams and body lotion. Among these, the first three are positional isomers of dihydroxybenzene so simultaneous separation is difficult with the conventional reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic technique (RP-HPLC). The selected skin whitening agents were detected in facial cream and body lotion using micellar liquid chromatography coupled to a photodiode array detector (MLC-PDA). In the present study, optimization of the method was accomplished using response surface methodology (RSM) w…
Spectrophotometric determination of phenol and resorcinol by reaction with p-aminophenol
1993
Abstract Based on the reaction with p-aminophenol, a series of procedures have been developed for the spectrophotometric determination of phenol and resorcinol. Three basic approaches have been studied: (i) a batch procedure, using the dissolved oxygen as oxidant, (ii) a stopped-flow procedure by use of KIO4 as oxidant and (iii) a flow injection (FI) procedure developed in the presence of KIO4. Phenol can be accurately determined at 626 nm, in the stopped-flow mode, after a reaction time of 45 min in 0.005M NaOH, 0.004M KIO4 and 500 μg/ml of PAP. The development of a manifold, which incorporates a sample parking, is a convenient approach which makes it possible to measure, in the stopped-fl…
Determination of titanium by adsorption voltammetry with 4-(2-pyridylazo) resorcinol
1990
Titanium (IV) forms a complex with 4-(2-pyridylazo) resorcinol (PAR) in weakly acidic solutions. This complex can be used to determine titanium by adsorption voltammetry at a stationary Hg-electrode. The experimental conditions for the determination are described. The current-concentration curve is linear from 0.15–4.8 ng/g. Ti at a deposition time of 3 min, the detection limit lies at 0.1 ng/g. The influence of foreign ions was investigated. The determination can be carried out in the presence of a 1000-fold excess of iron by the standard addition method, albeit with decreased sensitivity.
