Innovation partnerships can be a double-edged sword. While they are important vehicles for learning and value creation, such partnerships also increase a firm’s vulnerability to unintended knowledge leakage and imitation by others. In this study, we go beyond previous research by studying the imitation threats induced by innovation partnership portfolios rather than individual alliances. Sustainable European fishery and the Friend of the Sea scheme: tools to achieve sustainable development in the fishery sector

This paper investigates the role of the Friend of the Sea (FOS) scheme as a market tool for sustainable competitive advantage. To capture this effect, we apply a theoretical framework based on the stakeholder theory (SHT) and the natural-resource-based view (NRBV) to two case studies each in Italy and Spain. Our model allows us to explain the main factors determining an effective and competitive sustainable business model in the fishery sector. The results confirm the relevant influence of market forces in acquiring FOS certification and the role of the same as a counterpart to state authority.

Interdependence between best team members and their teammates

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine how, within a team, the value of their best member depends critically on the performance of the rest. Integrating transaction cost economics and the resource-based view in services and innovation

[EN] This study examines the complementary nature of Williamson's transaction cost theory and that of the resource-based view in the integration or externalisation of activities, with particular reference to services. Assessing comparative costs, idiosyncratic demands and core competences form the criteria for make or buy decisions, although the analysis of services endows idiosyncratic demands with particular relevance when internalisation of services does neither contribute cost advantages nor others related to the core competences of the firm. In addition to these make or buy questions, this study considers the front/back model in cases where the firm manages services internally.

Brokers in the Credit Market: An Examination of the Vertical Scope

This paper analyzes the vertical disintegration of the bank loan origination value chain. The main aim is to identify the relevant drivers which cause the emergence of brokers in the credit market which lead to vertical disintegration of the credit origination value chain. Transaction cost economics is the typical perspective of analysis of the vertical scope of banking value chains. This paper argues that in order to capture the drivers underlying the dynamic evolution of the vertical scope of bank loan origination business models, the above perspectives must be combined and further integrated with a capabilities and resource based view and with a modularity perspective.

The role of internal resources in the competitive positioning of Sicilian wine cooperatives

The paper is an original article that uses accounting frameworks to determine what creates a competitive advantage in a cooperative business model. In particular, it investigates the influence of tangible, intangible and financial resources on the business performance of cooperatives operating in the Sicilian wine industry, with the RBV of the firms as a theoretical background.
