This paper explores the challenge of finding common ground between the Finns and the Chinese in the context of co-operation, trade and inward investment facilitation related to general lack of specific interest displayed by the Chinese. The article is ethnographic in nature and is mainly based on data obtained from interviewing individuals working for local governments in Finland and one of the state agencies responsible for attracting foreign investment. A New Perspective on the Relationship between Trading Variables and Volatility in Futures Markets

In this paper, we study the relationship between trading-related variables and volatility in futures markets, from a new unifying perspective, which is based on the separation of open and closed positions. Volatility in stock index futures markets (Standard & Poor’s 500, DAX 30 and Nikkei 225) is related to the flow of contracts entered into the markets and the flow of contracts that are closed out. In general, the daily changes in the number of open and closed positions are both positively correlated with volatility. Pirms Industriālās revolūcijas reklāma bija fenomens, kas izplatījās vietējā mērogā, taču mūsdienās reklāmdevēji uzskata, ka ir „jādomā globāli, bet jārīkojas lokāli”. Paralēli sarunām, kas noris starp globālas un lokālas reklāmas piekritējiem, reklāmdevējiem ir jāatrod veidi, kā patērētājiem pārdot produktus, un viens no veidiem ir transkreācija. Transkreācija ir salīdzinoši jauns jēdziens un tam ir veltīta neliela pētnieciskā darbība, turklāt latviešu valodā šis termins vēl nav atzīts (lai gan Latvijas reklāmdevēji lieto terminu „adaptācija”). A Band Model of Cambium Development: Opportunities and Prospects

More than 60% of tree phytomass is concentrated in stem wood, which is the result of periodic activity of the cambium. Nevertheless, there are few attempts to quantitatively describe cambium dynamics. In this study, we develop a state-of-the-art band model of cambium development, based on the kinetic heterogeneity of the cambial zone and the connectivity of the cell structure. The model describes seasonal cambium development based on an exponential function under climate forcing which can be effectively used to estimate the seasonal cell production for individual trees.
