Non-crossing quantile regression via monotone B-spline varying coefficients

Quantile regression can be used to obtain a nonparametric estimate of a conditional quantile function. The presence of quantile crossing, however, leads to an invalid distribution of the response and makes it dicult to use the tted model for prediction. In this work, we show that crossing can be alleviated or completely eliminated by explicit modeling of the regression coecients as a function of the percentile values in (0,1). We illustrate the approach via a wellknown dataset by emphasizing dierences with respect to the competitors.

Analysis of the determinants of entrepreneurial intention: the case of Burkina Faso

International audience; In this study, we propose to analyze students' entrepreneurial intention, drawing on Lazear's (2004) self-selection model. This model captures the role of "human capital" in employment assignment and emphasizes the importance of the variety of skills in the individual's entrepreneurial orientation. For this purpose, we have a database collected in 2017 from over 1000 students at Ouaga I and Ouaga II universities in Burkina Faso. The results of estimates obtained using the quantile regression method show a positive and significant effect of the diversity of skills on the intention score, mainly at the median level. INTERNAL CROSSED MODULES AND PEIFFER CONDITION

In this paper we show that in a homological category in the sense of F. Borceux and D. Bourn, the notion of an internal precrossed module corresponding to a star-multiplicative graph, in the sense of G. Janelidze, can be obtained by directly internalizing the usual axioms of a crossed module, via equivariance. We then exhibit some sufficient conditions on a homological category under which this notion coincides with the notion of an internal crossed module due to G. Janelidze. We show that this is the case for any category of distributive Omega(2)-groups, in particular for the categories of groups with operations in the sense of G. Orzech.

Selecting the special or choosing the common? A high-powered conceptual replication of Kim and Markus’ (1999) pen study

Kim and Markus (1999) found that 74% of Americans selected a pen with an uncommon (vs. common) color, whereas only 24% of Asians made such a choice, highlighting a pronounced crosscultural difference in the extent to which people opt for originality or make majority-based choices. The present high-powered study (N = 729) conceptually replicates the results from Kim and Markus (1999; Study 3). The church of Santa Maria di Campogrosso, long abandoned, is now a ruin. However, this church represents an important historical and architectural witness to the presence of “basiliani” monks in eastern Sicily, much less documented than the western Sicily’s one. Moreover, the story of this monument is linked to a very important episode, the Norman conquest of Sicily with the birth of the so-called "arabo-normanna" architecture. The essay describes the history of the church between abandonment, restoration and archaeological studies until the present.
