Using self-assessment to enhance self-regulated learning : an intervention study in a Finnish lower secondary school

The aim of this intervention study was to explore how the emphasised use of self-assessment in Swedish language classes affects ninth graders’ perceptions of self-regulated learning and their self-assessments in Finland. The dataset includes the survey responses of 36 students and their written self-assessments. The results suggest that the quality of the self-assessments increased during the intervention, although the level of reflection was still superficial. The students exhibited more positive perceptions of their skills in self-regulated learning at the end of the intervention. Tutkielman tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa kahdeksan lukio-opiskelijan käsityksiä itsearvioinnista B1-ruotsissa ja verrata heidän itsearviointejaan suullisessa kommunikaatiotaidossa opettajan antamaan arvioon. Lisäksi tavoitteena oli testata ja arvioida uusimman opetussuunnitelman taitotasoasteikon mukaan luotua itsearviointilomaketta. Itsearviointilomake, opettajan arviointilomake sekä kaikkien tutkimushenkilöiden haastattelu toimivat tutkimuksen materiaalina. This chapter discusses seventeenth-century Sweden, where academically trained advocates and procurators emerged but attempts of advocacy monopoly failed. The case of Gabriel Abrahamsson—a son of a pastor, a former cavalryman and farmer, and, later on, a lower-level civil servant in Helsinki—proves that no specific privileged status or academic education was needed for advocacy in lower courts. The tradition to use any reasonable man as a legal representative continued, and trusted men from various social backgrounds with self-acquired legal skills acted as lay advocates. This study examines the construction of ethnicity in the permanent exhibitions of two museums: Siida, the National Museum of the Finnish Sámi and the Nature Centre of Metsähallitus, and Ájtte, the Swedish Mountain and Sámi Museum. The study is motivated by three research questions: What kind of ethnic categories and boundaries do the exhibitions create? How is Sámi ethnicity defined by displaying cultural features? In the aftermath of the First World War, constitutions of European states were widely democratized and parliamentarized, and similar turns were expected in international relations as a consequence of the creation of the League of Nations. This comparative analysis of Swedish and Finnish parliamentary debates on the League membership focusing on conceptualizations of the national versus international demonstrates how democratization and internationalization merged discursively. Tutkielmani tarkoitus on selvittää suomenruotsalaisten työntekijöiden asenteita suomenkielisten kollegoidensa ruotsin kielen taitoon ja valmiuksiin käyttää ruotsin kieltä julkisen sektorin työpaikalla kaksikielisessä kunnassa Etelä-Suomessa. Tällä työpaikalla ja tutkimuspaikkakunnalla enemmistön äidinkieli on ruotsi, mikä vaikuttaa työyhteisön kieleen hallitsevasti.
