ERP system implementation in SMEs: exploring the influences of the SME context

2012

Small and medium-sized enterprises SMEs are increasingly implementing enterprise resource planning ERP systems. Compared to large enterprises, SMEs differ in a number of inherent characteristics, which are likely to impact the ERP system implementations. The purpose of this study is to explore these influences of the SME context on the ERP system implementation process. SME characteristics are synthesised from relevant literature and the influences of the contextual factors on various activities across the ERP life cycle are investigated. The study presents findings from a multiple case study of four SMEs. The ownership type of the companies and limited resources were identified as the most…

Towards a Better Understanding of the Dynamics of Platform as a Service Business Models

2014

Platform as a Service (PaaS) solutions are changing the way software is produced, distributed, used, and priced. However, there has been little research into understanding the dynamics of PaaS business models and how these business models should be designed to establish a flourishing ecosystem around these platforms. Using design science research (DSR) we first identified the main design elements of PaaS business models as well as their relationships by investigating 24 PaaS providers. The resulting classification scheme as well as the qualitative systems dynamics model (in form of a causal loop diagram (CLD)) facilitates a better understanding of the adoption dynamics of PaaS business mode…

LightSpMV: Faster CSR-based sparse matrix-vector multiplication on CUDA-enabled GPUs

2015

Compressed sparse row (CSR) is a frequently used format for sparse matrix storage. However, the state-of-the-art CSR-based sparse matrix-vector multiplication (SpMV) implementations on CUDA-enabled GPUs do not exhibit very high efficiency. This has motivated the development of some alternative storage formats for GPU computing. Unfortunately, these alternatives are incompatible with most CPU-centric programs and require dynamic conversion from CSR at runtime, thus incurring significant computational and storage overheads. We present LightSpMV, a novel CUDA-compatible SpMV algorithm using the standard CSR format, which achieves high speed by benefiting from the fine-grained dynamic distribut…

Recent Advances in the Capture and Display of Macroscopic and Microscopic 3-D Scenes by Integral Imaging

2017

The capture and display of images of 3-D scenes under incoherent and polychromatic illumination is currently a hot topic of research, due to its broad applications in bioimaging, industrial procedures, military and surveillance, and even in the entertainment industry. In this context, Integral Imaging (InI) is a very competitive technology due to its capacity for recording with a single exposure the spatial-angular information of light-rays emitted by the 3-D scene. From this information, it is possible to calculate and display a collection of horizontal and vertical perspectives with high depth of field. It is also possible to calculate the irradiance of the original scene at different dep…

Toward 3D integral-imaging broadcast with increased viewing angle and parallax

2018

Abstract We propose a new method for improving the observer experience when using an integral monitor. Our method permits to increase the viewing angle of the integral monitor, and also the maximum parallax that can be displayed. Additionally, it is possible to decide which parts of the 3D scene are displayed in front or behind the monitor. Our method is based, first, in the direct capture, with significant excess of parallax, of elemental images of 3D real scenes. From them, a collection of microimages adapted to the observer lateral and depth position is calculated. Finally, an eye-tracking system permits to determine the 3D observer position, and therefore to display the adequate microim…

Mūzika kā līdzeklis 5-6 gadīgu bērnu intelektuālai attīstībai

2017

Bērnu muzikālās at…

Acoustic rendering of particle-based simulation of liquids in motion

2009

In interaction and interface design, the representation of continuous processes often uses liquid metaphors, such as dripping or streaming. When an auditory display of such processes is required, an approach to sound-synthesis based on the physics of liquids in motion would be the most convincing, especially when real-time interaction is into play. In order to bridge the complexity of fluid-dynamic simulations with the needs of interactive sonification, we propose a multi-rate sound synthesis of liquid phenomena. Low-rate smoothed-particle hydrodynamics is used to model liquids in motion and to trigger sound-emitting events. Such events, such as solid-liquid collision, or bubble formation, …

AnyDSL: a partial evaluation framework for programming high-performance libraries

2023

This paper advocates programming high-performance code using partial evaluation. We present a clean-slate programming system with a simple, annotation-based, online partial evaluator that operates on a CPS-style intermediate representation. Our system exposes code generation for accelerators (vectorization/parallelization for CPUs and GPUs) via compiler-known higher-order functions that can be subjected to partial evaluation. This way, generic implementations can be instantiated with target-specific code at compile time. In our experimental evaluation we present three extensive case studies from image processing, ray tracing, and genome sequence alignment. We demonstrate that using partial …

Vēstures procesa izpratne Nikolo Makjavelli darbos

2018
